The other day I was asking questions about my fish finder.. I mentioned I hadn't had much luck with it. (like I couldn't see my jig) or even any fish where others around me would turn theres on right then and see them etc.. Anyway, I was working on getting it ready to go try again before I sent it back etc.. Smile So I crimped the connectors a bit so that they stay on the battery better and I played with the cable that goes to the screen.. now i assume it was the battery but I hit the ole power button and I was holding the transducer and the dang thing starting biting me.. yup.. so I drop it and I hear this tic tic tic sound.. sounds I have heard before with other peoples fish finders! Mine had NEVER done that before. I have a good feeeeeeeling that my fish finder will work next time I go out! Anyway just wanted to let you all know that transducers DO in fact bite!

YES they do Craig. And remember, if your transducer ain't bitin', the fish probably aren't gonna bite either.

I use the same "test" on my transducer to determine when they are weak. They do wear out, though it usually takes thousands of hours of run time. If your signal ever gets weaker than it had been before, that's the first thing to check. Feel the click-click-click. Then, you can see the tic-tic-tic on your rod tip!

When I use my fishfinder in my Porta-bote I use a through-the-hull transducer that I lay on the bottom of my boat. All I have to do to make it work is to put a little water under it and then it easily shoots though the bottom of the boat. I have noticed that whenever it starts to get dry under it that I can easily hear it clicking.
