Wednesday afternoon I got a call (the bass are biting at Powell...

Thursday morning at 3:00 I got to Brent to pick him up and on our way at O-dark 30...

We was on the water by 7:15 and heading down lake at 65+...The water was flat and looking like a mirror with a fish jumping here and there, we came in for a landing about an hour and ten minutes later in a cove just off the main lake...

Brent got the first bass but it was only 10" and don't count if less then 12" long, my turn and it was 13" and a nice smallie...

Then all **ell broke lose and we was under attack from all sides, Brent lost one lucky craft 78 then on his next cast lost his Mikey Jr. but at or wile this was going on I had boated 4 stripers and on my #5 but Brent was re-tied and made his third cast and hooked up as soon as it hit the water..

I made my cast at the same time and we had two fish on, Oh no Brent IS NOW saying things that I can't print ****##** he just broke off his lure again this made # 3...
Oh yes I got my fish in and it was a nice smallie at 15", Brent didn't want to hear the words of wisdom when I told him a boy scout could tie a better knot...

Then I could not believe what was going on, my line broke!!!! NOT Mine thats my Lucky craft that Striper is swimming away with...(We won't say what I said)

We stayed in that one cove till about 4:00 then headed back to Bull Frog we put one striper in the live well after we caught #5 so we could try to keep track and have a few to eat...

On day two we went back to the same cove but we planed to try other spots after two hours...The first day we both lost 3 lucky crafts and brent the Mickey...

Day two we started with top water spooks after all it is Halloween, at the end of two hours we boated 41 Stripers and 16 bass LM & SM over 12" with each of us getting two fish on one lure...

We planed to head for home by 2:30 but we got back to the docks at 3:15, how many fish did we get we just guess at over a 100+ with Sad hearts we are already thinking of our next trip....
(after we buy more lures) Oh yes on day two Brent lost one spook and I lost two spooks Brent broke one rod and I broke one rod... (Fish Tech will love us come Monday)

[#ff0000]Dang - That sounds like nothing but fun! Sounds like a good reminder to respool with some tougher, fresher line before heading to Powell next time also. Heading down lake at 65mph for over an hour puts you a bit below Dangling Rope right about buoy 30, looks like your secret spot is out! [Wink] Thanx for the report.[/#ff0000]

Sounds like fun to me. It also looks like the water level is nearly full....wow....I hope to plan on going to powell next year...I hate it when I lose lucky crafts...I've lost several at the berry and it is very upsetting, but you cant go wrong with them!

Way to go Clifford. I've got to get down there again one of these days -- it has been way too long.

Nice job Bassrods! It's about time we heard a report of somebody going CATCHING at Powell instead of just fishing....[fishin]

It has a long ways to go:

"Lake Powell is 76.09 feet below Full Pool (Elevation 3,700)

By content, Lake Powell is 58.31% of Full Pool (24,322,000 af)"

I put new line on just before we headed down, but this is the best and biggest or fattest Stripers I have seen in many years...

The ones on the cleaning table, the lightest one was 4 lb 1oz and the biggest on the table was 5.5lb and there is 91.2 lb on the table...

We got some up to 8 lb and could they fight as good or better then the wiper and I have got my share of both...

No the lake is far from full it is about 80' low still...

[#000000]That is alot of good catching. Was the water temp. the same throughout the areas you covered? I am also wondering if the bass hit good all day or at certain periods? It looks like you caught most of them up agianst shoreline and shallow. Is this what you guys looked for or did you also see some fish in deeper farr off water?[/#000000]

Water temp. was 63 morning and 65 high..

We would get fish in 0' of water chasing shad and turn and cast in the deeper water and catch fish there with the same bait- lure we used jerk baits the first day till we lost all in the ghost pointer 78's...
On the next day we used top water ALL day both days we got Stripers, Small mouth and large mouth all in the same places and same lures...

Lots of brush under the water now, the lake is about 30' to 40' up from last year and shad by the 1,000 all over in all the coves we went in ...
