Headed up to the narrows for a river/reservoir trip before the rain set in. Arrived to good flows and great fishing on the river, hit a few spots on the way up and caught fish on every stop. We were using rappala's and night crawlers, while the fishing was fast, not to much size to the trout. When we got to the reservoir we started along the dam and worked the East side of the lake, wasn't marking very many fish, but hooked into a few smallies close to the rocky shoreline. Overall a great day, probably 20 trout and a couple of smallies between the two of us. We were back in time to watch Texas fall to Texas-Tech[pirate]!!!!

FishinHippy: I'm new to fishing in Idaho and appreciate your post on the "Narrows". Can you tell me where the Narrows are located? Thanks,
.

The narrows are the section of the Bear River that comes out of Oneida Dam. This located just north of Preston Idaho- South East Idaho. Flows are controlled by the dam- (electricity)when they are up it's tougher fishing .
There's been a fight over the last 3 years or so with the irrigation company wanting to put another dam in 1/2 way up the canyon. Do a search on here and I am sure you can find threads about the narrows and the proposed dam.

Welcome to the board!!!! Packfish pretty much anwsered your question, it is a great place to fish in SE Idaho and both the lake and the river provide some excellent fishing. Just be sure to leave a report. Here is a google map link: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&pwst=1&resnum=0&q=oneida%20dam%2C%20idaho&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
In an older post on the narrows DMamoyte (I think) posted alink to check flows. They were perfect last week.
I hope you take the time to check it out! FYI the trout limit is only two on that strecth of river below the dam. If your looking for a bigger limit try Devil's creek, just outside of Mallad.

FishingHippy and others...thanks for the directions and guidance. Being from Mountain Home means "the narrows" will have to wait til next spring and summer. Looks like a 2 day trip to me and that ain't happening until things warm up some. Thanks again.
