Went and fished the ogden river on monday with a guy I work with. It was a turning out to be a pretty good day as we both caught a brown each within the first half hour. Then we spotted a hole with a bunch of nice fish browns swimming so we both started to cast and try and get them to take our flies. Then all of a sudden I felt his line hit me in the face and him try and pull it away while apologizing. Right then I felt a stinging in my lip and blood begin to drip down my face! He had hooked me perfectly in my lip! Also with that little tug he set the barb deep in my lower lip. I first tried to pull it out but it wouldn't' budge. I then went up to my truck and began...SURGERY![crazy] I had to push the hook in farther until I punched a new hole in my lip until the barb came out. I put my buddy to use by dumping water on my lip to wash the blood away so I could see. The I clipped the eye of the hook and unthreaded the fly and pulled it out! Lesson learned..Don't fish that close to someone or don't wish with that guy again!!!![
] Check out the pic below..I only got one when it first happened

Not trying to laugh at your expense, but that is freaking heeeelarious! I'll bet that gave you a fat lip. Thanks for sharing. That pic is classic!
This past summer I was up in Wyoming attempting the Cutt-slam, and a buddy of mine got a pheasant tail stuck DEEP in his thumb. He basically had to perform surgery as well to remove it. I almost passed out watching him try to pull that out of his thumb.

WOW! or OUCH! another reason I fish Barbless. Not that this couldn't still happen, but much easier to remove.
I DID learn this lesson the hard way. One in my thigh, and several in the fingers....I am a slow learner[laugh]
I also learned to de barb hooks before making them into a fly as sometimes the hook breaks while squishing the barb...another lesson learned the hard way and several reallly nice flies[pirate]

Hey Mack,
Looks like your buddy hooked a "Sucker" [
], J/K. I did have to remove a scud from my neck one afternoon on a windy day on the Green, hooked a nice fish and he came unbuttoned and the line came flying out of the river, wind caught it and sunk it into the adams apple area of my throat. After some minor surgery I got it out, not alot of fun. Remo

I guess if your going to practice C&R with humans, it's best to get them in the lips. However you should go barbless. (just a little giggle[laugh])
That had to hurt?!

Yeah I think this was a good lesson for me on going barbless. For the fishes sake, as well as mine![

A buddy and i had the same experience but on the weber about a month ago. i was fly fishing than all of a sudden my fly got stuck.[unimpressed] i look back right on the bottom right hand side of his lip. could not get it out so decided to go to the doctor. The doctor said pull the line down. get tewezers and pull down on the hook at the rounded part and it will come out. pineviewfisher [shocked]

That looks like one of those PETA pictures. PETA would love it.

Not personally but I extracted a huge bass hook from my brothers cheek. He pull it out of a snag a didn't move fast enough. I had to shove it the rest of the way through his cheek then cut it with my pliers and back it out. We were in a boat and didn't want to leave. I dare say it hurt him a lot more than it hurt me.
