Sorry for this late post. I caught this 40 inch Tiger while trolling a small SR-7 Rapala at about 20ft deep. I am new to this forum and have been lurking for quite awhile. I feel very lucky to be able to C&R such a prize after only my third time on the View.

Sweeeet.. Looking forward to pulling one threw the ice hole.. So if a Tiger is a fish of a thousand casts.. How many holes do you have to drill in the ice before you catch one ??[laugh][laugh][laugh]
Welcome to B.F.T[fishin]

Very nice fish. Congratulations are in order. I'm driven to fish PV. The major obstacle is the distance from my home and the damn traffic. I'd have to leave Spanish Fork at 4:00 AM to avoid the traffic.then stay the night in Ogden and come back the following night, but when I see fish like yours it make me start planning.

Yuba is getting extremely tough to catch a northern. No strikes in the last 3 trips and with the musky problem the DWR is facing it appears as though if anyone wants to catch a big tiger they had better move on PV very soon.

Has anyone heard anything about Johnson? It seems like our angler friends from that part of the state are very quiet.

Again, congratulations, that's a beautiful fish. Tight lines

Congrats on a fine fish and way to go after only three tries.

Beautiful, nice fish!

In these days of uncertainty with the economy and a new President coming, seems that everyone is either buying guns or rushing to get a big musky!

Don't forget, Newton is getting some bigger Tiger Muskies too so don't everyone rush to Pineview. I don't think you need to rush either. Consider the big sturgeon in the snake river, they've lived to be caught time and time again. With the right catch and release practices, by the time they start stocking tigers again (which looks to be in a few years), there will still be alot of big tiger muskies in Pineview.

Just everyone please go prepared with the right catch and release gear (ALL tiger muskies must be released) and be nice to them when handling. Thanks! Thanks for the C&R heads up Ryan. I did go to the link and unfortunately the first picture is a gentleman gill gaffing a large fish out of water....Ouch!

At least with Sturgeon, you are NOT allowed to remove them totally from the water...looks like the same should be true for the Musky.

VERY NICE FISH! 40" Wow, got to love that, but I have to ask...you got to be a tall guy.
[signature]
The question about me being tall made me laugh. It is a fair question in case we just made an estimate of the length of the Tiger. What we used is the tape measure on the Berkley Gripper. My partner and I had a good look at the measure, but in the interest of returning it quickly to the water we did not mess with pointing the tail. I did measure the Berkley tool to just shy of 12 inches. Since they are common among anglers. One could size the fish using the Berkley as a unit. Without saying how tall I am, I will say I am less than 27 inches taller than this fish is long!

Whats the point in releasing any Tiger Muskie? They are no longer gonna be planted in Utah anyways. there gonna die off anyways. Not at least they find a disease free strain of Muskies.

[#0080ff]Sorry about this statement folks. I didn't realize they are gonna try to keep them here in Utah. Glad there are people here that respect our fisheries![/#0080ff]

No doubt from me that it was 40" not at all! You just make it look soo easy. I know picture just don't do justice at times.
40" for me puts it about chest hight. That was all.

Catfish logic,

I must ask before I or anyone (everyone) else spends time responding to your post....is it simply a post you made trying to get a rise out of people and see how many "feathers you can ruffle?" I assume that is the reason for the post.

I must ask...do you mainly fish with bait? Would you like to catch a 40"+ tiger? How about a 59.5" Musky - one was recently caught outside of Dryden.
IF FOR NO OTHER REASON ITS THE LAW.....
[signature]
No I was not trying to stir the pot and I would never even waste my time fishing for Tiger Muskies. But if they are no longer gonna be planted ever again they might as well be caught and kept.

In fact in certain lakes were Rainbows don't have spawning grounds or a creek to swim to spawn. The trout will have to be planted or they simply die off thats my point. They might as well be kept.

Not trying to make anyone wrong here. If they are gonna be no longer planted might as well keep what you catch.

However, if there are plans made by the DWR to not give up on Tigers certainly I would follow the law and release what I catch.

Last but not least I would never even fish for Tigers in the first place.

I will also mention that catch and release fishing is not politically correct. As far as Tigers go yes. As far as other species no.

If our government has the right to spend our tax dollars on whatever the hell they feel like. And we have to get fishing licenses to fish. When I go fishing I catch and keep my limits. Second if there are slot limits, I feel better leaving the fish alone. Strawberry is an example. I would rather catch 1 foot long trout in some small creek, than catch and release Cutthroats.

There enough tragedies with caught and released fish, especially trout. Barbless hooks would work though, I think not sure.

So many folks here at BFT fish and fish and fish and fish and fish and fish and fish.

People like us hardly go at all. So we are stuck with self righteous "I catch and release". Or "I would never keep that fish".

These very same folks have probably caught 20 times more fish than we have I have ever caught. And they have kept thousands of fish in their freezers.

Only now in the present after all those fish " I catch and release"

Catch and release fishing for Tigers? Sure they help clean up the trash fish.

I would never break the law like some idiot would. And I respect the law so sorry if any one took me like one of those jerks that doesn't care about our resources.

First of all, tigers taste like CRAP! No point in keeping one to eat. If you have the money to stuff one then it would be ok IF YOU COULD KEEP THEM. There is hope that some replacements will be found but until then, they must be released. With the fish still left in there, we should have tigers for atleast 6 or 7 years provided they don't get caught and killed by miss-handling, kept illegally, or a disease or climate condition wipes them out.
Why would you not fish for them? Something against them or scared to try and land one?[crazy]
[signature]
Your right it is, sorry I didn't know that.

Certainly I would never break the law and keep a Tiger.
[signature]
They taste like crap, eh? I didn't know that.

I'm not scared of catching Tigers

OK OK OK OK

I heard rumors that they growl and hiss and even have poison in their fangs.

No...

I live by a wise saying:

"If you can't eat it, don't kill it"

He he he he

You do bring up a good subject however. There are fish that SHOULD be kept, like carp in freshwater, chub, Lakers, Perch, and a few others. They are PIGS and do eat all the forage and end up starving out the TROUT species. Then there are rivers that definitely need harvesting as the mass of trout are starving them self out.
