Those look like ideal size for ice fishing. Are they chubs or red shiners?

Plain old carp minnows.
I know you read this-

As far as size goes, they are between 3/4'' - 3 1/2'' long. They should be great for the Burbot this winter.

Great post, and thanks for sharing!
Any particular part of the lake better than the other, and are you doing this from the bank? Are you dipnetting or throwing a casting net? I was there once long ago so I'm not familiar with the area.
Looks like your planning to freeze them up in ziplocks without any pre-treatment. Do the carp minnows hold up pretty well to freezing without removing any of the moisture content?

I cant answer about the treatment but the location I can. I got my bundles from the South Boat ramp. East side. Knee high rubber boots and a small pet store net and a bucket!

Maybe Tubedude will chime in. I called the F&G regarding this and they told me to get them all out. They said use nets or minnow traps. I guess the netting rule doesn't apply because they are not a game fish. No limit.

I had no idea that there were that many carp in there. Great job on reducing the numbers.

That's awesome you did all that with an aquarium net!
Looking at your buckets, I pictured those guys as grow'd up daddys.. You did the lake quite a service!
Thanks for the info!

[cool]If you can't tell the difference between a carp and a gamefish, you should not be fishing. The minnows are very easily identifiable as carp.
No restrictions on the taking of unprotected or nonregulated species, except the type and size of nets. Read the proclamation.

Other than burbot what else would the carp minnows be used to catch? I'm guessing walleye, wipers, and possibly catfish? Excuse my ignorance on the subject just wondering what else I could use these for if I decide to pursue some of these minnows. Anyone got a good place to get some chub minnows from a local source other than the store?

Any type of game fish that eats minnows (cutts, browns, bass, macks, etc.) could be caught on them (as long as one follows the regulations that apply to the body of water that they are fishing). They could be fished whole or as cut bait. On any particular body of water, on any given day, perhaps another type of minnow would work better, but many times the fish don't mind whether it is a carp, chub, sucker, red shiner or whatever.
