They only trout stream I have heard of in the area is cold creek near Mt. Charleston. But I have not ever fished it myself and am not even sure of the exact location. Southern Utah has some great trouting and is only 2-3 hours drive. The Cedar Mountain area has lots of lakes that are packed full of trout and there are streams that cut through all over, most streams I fished held lots of little Brookies that were eager biters and fun to catch. Not sure that I know any of the streams I fished by name... Check the Utah board, that board is active and the guys there would have more details than I. As a bonus the area cannot be beat for sheer beauty. Good luck.

I am not sure if there is anything at cold creek. I think there are some ponds there. There is nothing within 20 min. You can catch them in Lake Mead or Lake Mojave just check NDOW for stocking areas and times. Anything else would be a 2hr drive at a minimum and that is in Utah

Cold creek pond is a good trout hole. If you take 95 north past lee canyon, you will see the correctional facility on the left. make that left turn and follow it a ways until you come to a small firehouse. you will see 3 ponds. the lower one is the one they stock. per NDOW they just put 500 trout in there last week. It is about 45 minutes north of town. just remember the limit is 3 fish here.

Nice thanx for the info. I may head up there quail and chukar hunting and check it out.

hogwrench,

thanks for the details. been looking for those ponds, but thought they were farther downstream where the creek passes under wheeler pass road. are there any problems with them being on private land or can you walk right in?

The ponds are at Cedar and Wheeler Pass. The actual pond that is stocked is the furthest north pond, where the stream runs into. I am sure that this is not private property, as it is on the same land as the firestation and has signs for camping. It looks small but is about 30' deep. I spoke with a LVMPD resident officer and he was the one who told me which pond was stocked. I have not been up there in a year or so, but now that they are stocking again I may have to go back.

Thanks, I'm heading up there tomorrow before it snows. will let you know how it went.

pond was full. creek flowing. didn't fish though. 40°F and 40 mph winds blew me back into the truck. just as the weather report said, but committed myself to head up anyway to check things out. will head back up in the spring or sooner if it warms up.

I need to find these ponds I have only been up there to the trailhead. Did you see any birds (quail or chukar)?

Rex,

didn't see any birds that day. it was blowing stink up there and didn't stick around. bound to be plenty of quail up there. try taking wheeler pass up and over to pahrump. it's a nice day trip and not many ATVers the farther you get from cold creek. i'll be heading back up that way in february and will drop a post to this site

Thanks for the info. I hunted up there years ago with not much success. Been thinking of checking it out. I have not takin the pass over to Pahrump. I may just have to try it.
