Despite a tough tournament, Joey Nania earned his second Junior Bassmaster World Championship title in the 15-18-year-old age group at Geary County State Lake, Kan. The Liberty Lake, Wash., native brought 4-pounds, 1-ounce of fish to the scales to claim a $5,000 scholarship, $1,000 Big Bass scholarship check and new aluminum boat with a value of $8,000.

"I've been in these tight situations where the fish don't bit," said Nania. "The best thing that I could do is throw a crankbait with my Pflueger reel and All Star rod" I was really pleased with my equipment. The Pflueger reels and All Star rods worked flawlessly all day long in some pretty cold weather. All I had to do was think about fishing, stay focused on that and ignore my frozen fingers"

Nania, who won the 2005 JWC title, picked up his go to equipment, an All Star 7 foot rod with a Pflueger President reel. Nania was looking for a reaction bite when he threw the crankbait. After 2 hours of cranking the rocky bottom of Geary the first of his 2 legal fish hit, giving him an inside edge to claim the top prize.

The 12 JWC anglers who competed qualified for the championship event through the six Federation Nation divisions. The 12 junior competitors are split into two age groups, 11-14 and 15-18. Each angler competing received academic scholarship awards, with the top angler in each division receiving a $5,000 scholarship.
