I hit DC this morning - It was quite nippy .. The water temps look to be around 48 and I picked up a few planters on a slow movin flatfish... Nothing terribly exciting so I ran to the far side from WB and trolled up the shore... I was spotin fish but no takers... I stopped and drifted a jig for a bit and nothin.

After a few changes I slipped on the motor oil with green flake and I was in trout heaven. I boated 20 fish in 2 hours. I had both poles full at a couple points in time.

The biggest was 21" and fat - He wanted to take my pole and I had to make a dash when he hit. The rest hit pretty soft while the jig was coming off the bottom. 48 - 35 ft of water was the spot, then use the electric to go back and drift through again... It was a nice day.

The fish are all in the fridge being salt cured for some thanksgiving breakfast bagels.... I wonder how those will go with deep fried Elk roast [Wink]

[Smile]Can you give the recipe and instructions for the salt curing? Thanks![Wink]

You can add whatever seasoning you like, to taste so to speak. Here is what I did today...

Fillet and remove skin and any bones
Trim so fillet chunks are uniform (you can use the scrap for soup or scrambled eggs etc)
Rub fillet with seasoning
Dill
Pepper
Red Pepper
Crushed red pepper
Seasoning salt

cover in salt, wrap in plastic wrap, place in fridge under pressure... I lay mine out flat and place a coke case on it...

let sit 48 hours, rinse, dry....

I personally like it sliced thin and served with bagels, crackers, rolls, pizza, and so on..... choosing to eat wild caught, salt cured meat is not recommended by most MD's

good luck

Thanks[Smile]
I have never had trout bagels for thanksgiving or anytime for that matter. trout and scrambled eggs is a new one for me too. I guess I will have to try it out. since the fish is not cooked but cured, is it almost like sushi? You said MD's don't recommend cured wild meat, I suppose it will make you sick if not done right, am I correct?

Lochs and Bagels are great when they are homemade.... Many kinds of cured fish are used in Sushi, Sashimi is raw. If you goof the cure and eat raw freshwater fish you can get sick... yes. Thus the disclaimer....

I personally don't worry about it that much... I am much more concerned with what is in the burger at McD's

This is really intriging. I can't wait to get out and catch some good trout and try this curing recipe! Would whitefish be good for curing or would it still be too fishy (oily) tasting?[Wink]

I have never tried. I would think it would be fine, lots of folks use whitefish. I prefer to cure (salt or smoke) oily fish over grill or bake, etc.

Good luck!

I also hit DC on Saturday -- what a great day - it started a little slow trolling but picked up around 10 - caught our 2 nicest bows (20") at noon on the same point, two passes in a row. The fish were hitting till we left at 2:30. Total caught was 20 - missed that many at least.

Did you see the Eagle at the main launch? - the bird was letting people walk right up under the tree and take pictures - pretty cool.

Sweet! I got to see the eagle hit a little trout first thing that morning. Very cool, he is a good fisherman.

I was the lone wolf in the red and white four winns. My past few trips have been pretty good at DC with little traffic [Wink]

I saw that eagle too! Always cool when they let you come up on em. I think that guy has learned that Fishermen are his friend.. I have fed him or one that looked like him on the ice before. They'll swoop down and take the trout then fly away. Very cool!

We didn't have nearly the success that you and HaggardW did. It was slow for us only 4 boated all day. Mostly fishing tube jigs.
We got off the water around 2pm

Has anyone had any success fishing where the Provo River enters Deer Creek (or where the stream enters Wallsburg Bay)? I'm going to try that tomorrow, but if it doesn't work, I"ll try some of the things mentioned by other posters.

When we were up there we tried neither of those spots. I have been curious about the walsburgh arm.. but the provo river inlet... we figured it's just too shallow to even bother.. Let us know how you do on both spots if you venture into them.

Maybe falconers who also like to fish should train their birds to go catch the fish for them, instead of rabbits. [laugh]

How did you do? That's where I've done the best with Walley's. Boat has been parked for two months because work went nuts. Just plugged the charger up to it and was thinking about trying to get a few Walley's in the boat before it ices over. What are the conditions there? Can you put in at both docks or just the main one now?
