Ktrout, Tincanfsh and I made our way to Strawberry today. We fished around the Renegade area. It started off slow for us and we had only landed 3 or 4 fish by 10:00 AM. Then we moved for the third time and it was fish on from then on until we left at about 4:30. We first found them in 20 feet of water and then we decided to try a little deeper water to see if we might find some larger fish. We then fished in 28 feet of water and the fishing was still just as fast, but they were the same size of fish. The average fish were around 18 inches and the largest were just over 22 inches. All were cutts except for one rainbow. Water temperature was 44 degrees. I have had some great days on Strawberry, but I believe today takes the prize for the most fish landed. We had countless doubles and at least three triples. I caught one fish casting a lure and all of the rest of the fish we caught today vertically jigging. Tube jigs were the lure of choice and they were tipped with chub, red shiner or baby carp. I found out today that the cutts at Strawberry love the Grantsville Carp (thanks Muleskinner222 for sending some my way). Fun day and great guys to spend a day of fishing with.

What kind of boat were you fishing from? I was up there as well, fished Renegade area at first but the wind chased me to the narrows, not a bad thing. Sounds like we had equal luck and used the same baits.

My son and I were up there on Saturday also, we didn't take the boat thinking the ramps would be iced up. We fished along the shore and hiked around the lake to the narrows. We had a blast and caught a bunch of them. The big ones were cruising the shoreline and would snatch up the frozen minnows we were using. My son had a 26 incher take a smack his minnow and hooked himself on the back of its head. It gave him a great fight but since it was foul hooked we let it go. We did end up catching five rainbows along with the cutts so we had a few for dinner. What an awesome day, too bad we had to leave early to get him back for work. I wish we had the boat but we did find a bunch of treasure along the bank. I found two nice Rapallas , an anchor rope, and two bags of bubbles.

Here are some pictures of my boat:

Glad you guys got a bunch we did not do so good. I thought the wind would pick up and the fishing would be bad in the areas you fished so i headed to the narrows. What time did you get to the berry i looked for you but did not see your boat or vehicle. You still drive a suburban right?

We arrived at the Renegade parking lot at about 6:30 AM. Yes, I still drive my white Suburban.

Cesar, one suggestion that I would give you is if you are not catching fish at Strawberry then try following the boats. Just like at Willard if the terns are diving one quickly follows them to find the wipers, at Strawberry often one can have success by joining the flotillas of boats that often form on Strawberry. We weren't fishing off of the large point just north of the Renegade boat ramp, but there must have been at least 25 different floating crafts of various sizes and descriptions fishing that point for most of the day. We didn't need to join them because we were anchored up about 3 blocks away from them and the catching was amazing where we were fishing, but I guarantee you they were catching lots of fish in that area or they all wouldn't have stayed put for so long. Feel free to call me on my cell phone and if I have service I will gladly share whatever information that I have. I have Verizon Wireless service and I have found that it works well on most of Strawberry, but many other providers don't offer service up there.

I saw you on the boat ramp. i was in a blue starcraft. i dont usually fish the berry but when its this good who can stay away. we caught fish steady all day with the occasional fire drill with everyone hooked up. the highlight of my day was watching my 6 yr old working them over with her barbie pole.[

Glad you had a good day, and wish that we could have said hi. I was surprised that several boats drifted by us and were catching few fish. I did not understand why they didn't try anchoring up and try vertically jigging for awhile when they saw how many fish that we were catching. I told one boat that we were tipping with chubs and carp, but they didn't reply what they were using to tip their jigs (I think they were using some type of jigs because they assumed we were fishing with tube jigs) or even if they were using any bait at all.

Excellent! Glad you got into em!
That was the way it was with me and Arron last Saturday (11/8) at the same place, during the same time of the day!
I also believe it was the fastest fishing I have ever participated in! (At least this year for sure!)

I was also in the Renegade area yesterday with my buddy in my tin can 14ft Sea Nymph. We launched around 8:00 a.m. and was surprised how warm and pleasant it was. We had a great day as well. We fished primarily at the far west end of the Meadows in 9.2ft of water. We boated a total of 59 fish (keep count with a golf score clicker) and lost countless more. The bait of choice was chub minnows (bigger the better) under orange weighted bobbers. We went through 6 Sportsmans packages and had to ration them near the end of the day. We did catch a handfull on worms, tube jigs, powerbait, and pointers, but it was the minnows they wanted!!!
We did not catch any over the slot though and we usually due, and no rainbows this trip either. We have actually caught a number of "nice sized" bows this year, but they were not trolling the shallows yesterday like the cutts.
I agree with Kent, everyone needs to experience a day like we had yesterday at Strawberry, especially kids. It was not too cold and the action was fast fast fast. I hope to get one more day on the soft water before I'm dragging my heavy sled over the top of it....
Thanks, PowerBate

That sounds good i will take your advice. I get phone reception on some parts of strawberry but i do have my marine radio. I am going back this saturday while there is still open water. Its supposed to be another good weekend. Are you going to be going to the berry this weekend?
[signature]
Sorry, but no I will be taking a class to start a new career. A little late to start all over, but one must do what one must do (or something like that).
[signature]
Off the topic but Verizon, from what I've seen with my own eyes, has better reception in Utah than any other carrier. I have att and have no service at the berry, even on 40 untill a few miles out of Duchesne. Where I deer hunt is 17 miles off the main road into the pines and Verizon has service, I have nada. Just a heads up for those who are looking for service. I would change service but I don't pay the bill...

Nice report Kent, sounds like you had a fun day at the Berry. What was your count on fish brought into the boat?
[signature]
We didn't count, but my best estimate would be over 300.
[signature]
Wow, when you said it was your best day ever, I just figured something over 100 but 100 apiece is one of those days that will not likely come again anytime soon. I bet your wrist is still sore from all that setting and reeling action[

]. From the sounds of it a lot of folks had a good day on Sat but not as good as your group[cool].

You know when you are having a great day of catching, when the bite is still red-hot for trout up to 22" long and one of your guests asks if we can try another place, with the hope of catching some larger fish.
[signature]
Kent, to my defense, it had been almost 10 minutes since I had caught a fish and that is why I asked to move [

][

]. Yes it was an unbelievable day and I won't soon forget it.

I was talking to one of neighbors today and he said that he had been fishing lately (this is rare for him, and after I asked him several times to go with me and after getting turned down every time I don't even both inviting him anymore). I asked where he had gone and he said Strawberry. I asked him how they had done and he said that they didn't catch a fish -- although they had a few followers. I asked him where he had fished and he said around Renegade. I told him how we had done up there on our last trip only to find out that he had been fishing the exact same day of this trip. He asked what we were using and I told him and he stated that among other things that they had used white tubes -- but without tipping them. It never ceases to amaze me how one group of anglers can do great on the same body of water and another group can get skunked fishing the same body of water and even fishing the same general area. He mentioned that they had mostly trolled with some drift trolling.
