I picked up my first big striper today! I was in my little home made boat testing my new firmware on its joystick controller and decided to do a little fishing while I was at it. All said and done I ended up pulling in a 34” 14lb striped bass on a slow trolled modified AC Plug.
I caught him around one of the trout plant areas. I can’t believe it, for the last two years I thought everyone was stretching the truth about big stripers in these waters!

Here he is on my garage floor pre-op...

Stomach contents... Looks like this one was hungry. A couple 9"-11" trout and a sunfish?
I always wondered if those $$$ 8" swim baits were too big. I guess not!
He's now wrapped in plastic and foil waiting for my grill. I know they say that the big ones aren't that great for eating, but I can't let him go to waste.

WOW! Great fish!
How about some additional information? What time of day? How fast did you troll the AC. What do you mean by modified?
By the way, I would eat it too. [

I hooked into him around 10:30. I just kept telling myself to stick to the AC plug and used my second pole to satisfy my need to keep changing things every 30 seconds.
I am not sure how fast I was moving. My rigg is powered by two Endura 30 trolling motors but I've got a homebrew joystick controlled PWM skidsteer controller. My LCD display isn't working yet so I just set my speed by feel, just fast enough that my line was tugging about two to four times a second. By the boat the lure was running just fast enough to roll and wobble. I tried to keep in close to the swallows.
The mods are small. I changed out the rear treble for a red, smaller, sharper one. I also have an E-Chip rigged on there, I don't know if this REALLY helps at all. Also, my AC plug is quite banged up, the finish just started peeling off the first time I used it.
Has anyone here caught anything on those really $$$ huddleston deluxe?
I just bought one of those Casitas Swimbaits, I'll have to try it out next time...
BTW: It was a 9" AC Plug Minnow Rainbow Trout.

Thanks for more info. Sounds like your hooked on big stripers now! Hope you get another one.
Every year I pledge to put the time in to catch a big striper....... and every year I end up fishing for quantity instead. Maybe this year will be different.

Yes all those big lures work. And they work well this time of year and all year long down on the river. You want to troll them very slow or cast into the shoreline just before sun up until 9:00 or 10:00 then they seem to move a little deeper. Have to go I am leaving to go cast a while from the shoreline. Hope to have a report later.

E chips work well on trolled lures.

Congrats on the great fish!! That was a hungry SOB. Two trout a bluegill and he wanted a third trout, thats my kind of fish.

[cool]Way to go Demolitron! Nice to see someone got a double digit from the plants. They do like to fill up on the trout. I got a big one years ago that had three 9" trout in his belly. This is the begining with more biguns to follow.

Hey Demolitron,
Fantastic job on a great fish. How deep were you trolling? How did it end up tasting?
Best regards,
Paul

Thanks! I'll surely be spending my days on the lake this fall/winter with my big tackle.
The AC Plug runs right on the surface kicking up one heck of a wake and making a clacking noise with its jointed body. I am going to try out one of the Castias baits next time around, in addition to the AC plug.
I haven't cooked it up yet, maybe it will be a Striper day instead of turkey day...
