Does anyone know how the rain will affect the fishing this time of year. I am hoping to head out Friday and Sat. Shallower, deeper, am I wasting my time?

Hello TDOG,
Sometimes before the front moves in and while it is raining they go nuts! I do not know if the planted trout on wednesday or if it will be on friday.
Either way the fish will be in close in the early morning hours. If it stays cloudy the may stay shallow all day. Otherwise troll and cast from shoreline to 70 feet of water. and you should pick something up.
I know the last week by the fishing pier on boulder beach there has been a ton of shad in the morning and later in the afternoon. But for some reason the hasn't been any great numbers of fish attacking them. I have been down of the shore netting them and putting them in the freezer for tough times.
The first trout plant there the trout did not hang out they went deep fast . the rain hopefully cooled the water down some. Good luck and hope to see a great report.

Hey Tom,
I was worried about the rain during Thanksgiving, too, but it didn't affect my fishing at all. My numbers are always best during the winter months. The stripers tend to be more aggressive during winter...especially in November and December. January is just way too cold for me, so I'll never go again in January again. I don't know if it's the temps or a shortage of shad, but I have noticed that the stripers are a lot more aggressive when it comes to going after my cut anchovies.
In October and September (and May), the stripers tend to "nibble" more at the cut anchovy bait. However, in the winter months, they go right after the bait. I find that the wind affects my fishing more than anything else. When it's blowing 30 to 45 mph at night, the fishing is awful. And frankly, I don't even try.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Best regards,
Paul
