a friend of mine was crappie fishin on Lay Lake friday afternoon. he was slowly working a 1/32 oz crappie tube on the bottom, stopping it and letting the crappie suck it up. but instead a 40 lb cat sucked it up and took off out to the middle of the channel. after 30 min of fighting he landed it.

Is this a Line class record? it was 40.66lbs on certified meat scales at a grocery store. he caught it on a spinning rod with 4lb. mono. no net.

That is an awesome catch right there. I heard something a while back about a little girl catching a 25lb channel on a "barbie" pole. But I think your friend has her beat as far as line test goes.

Without the state it was caught in hard to know. Here is a link to the BFT records page. It is broken down by state. Take a look and let us know.

the state of alabama does not recognize different line classes, and it was bout 5lbs away from the world record, but thanx for the link

Very nice catch. I caught a 16lb blue on my spinning light rod and reel once and it took me over 30 minutes and was one of the best memories I have of catching a nice fish.

I've caught 80lb blues on my "big rig" and they were not as exciting as that catch.

Very nice.
