Have any of you heard about this tire? If it is real, it sure will change things. Here is what I've read and some pictures of the new tire.

SEE THROUGH TIRE

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.

They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

Just think of the impact on existing technology:
A. no more air valves...
B. no more air compressors at gas stations...
C. no more repair kits...
D. no more flats...

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

[#000000]Looks and sounds good. There will be some very useful technological breakthroughs in the following years. [/#000000]

[#000000]I wonder though, how these tires will be on dirt roads and icy/snowy conditions? It looks like they could freeze to the the road surface if water and snow get in between the spaces there. I would like to learn more about them. [/#000000]

Your tires heat up quite a bit driving so I wouldnt worry about the spaces freezing, but the mud getting packed in them would suck.

I've seen these prototypes for a couples years now and it seems like thats all they ever end up being. I have yet to hear about marketing.

[#000000]What I meant was when the car is parked for a few hours or days. Ice is pretty strong.[/#000000]

Ditto. I got an e-mail about this a couple years ago, interesting theory but have never actually seen anything come of it. Of course, that doesn't mean that the technology is not being used. I'm sure it has it's purposes.
