Hey Everyone,
Just joined the site when I was doing some research for a new tube. You guys are obsessed with tubing and I'm right there with you.
I live in Colorado and love to fish lakes and reservoirs out of a tube. Mostly with a fly rod but I'm somewhat of a tube jig freak with a spinning rod too.
I've owned a Stillwater Talon and two TU Kennebecs.
Being well fed, I've beat the stitching up pretty good on these entry level tubes. Drooling over the SFC, I'm leaning towards the ODC 420. What is the difference between the standard and the lightweight model? Where did they shave off the weight? I'm 250 lbs and would prefer the lightweight. Any changes to from 2008 to 2009? Thanks in advance and I look forward to contributing to this site!

First welcome to the site.
I have the regular ODC 420 and at 210lbs plus gear it has more then enough float for my weight. I have tried to find the difference between the light and regular without much luck. If you find out please share. My guess is the only way to loose the weight is to use thinner material or something. Something isn't as thick or strong to loose that much weight.
That all said only thing I don't like is that the valves are in the pockets. Great tube though.

Well here is the specs for the Standard:
Tough 420 denier nylon upper cover
30 oz. PVC bottom cover for added durability
Thick foam seat and adjustable seat back for all day comfort
Rear storage area
D-Rings for Pack Straps (not included)
Overall Weight - 16 pounds
Weight Capacity - 300 lbs.
Packed Dimensions - 22x19x12 inches
And here is the specs for the Light:
Tough 420 denier nylon cover
Heavy Duty 14 gauge bladders
Thick foam seat and adjustable back for all day comfort
Large side storage pockets
Generous rear storage area
D-Rings for (optional) Pack Straps
Overall weight 8 lbs.
Weight capacity - 300 lbs.
Includes High Volume ODC Pump and Lightweight Fins
Packed Dimensions - 22x19x8
Looks like the "30 oz. PVC bottom cover for added durability" is the difference or at least one.
I do notice it is harder to find the STANDARD, and I find it strange they aren't on the Cabela's site either, just the lights.
And welcome to the site Hammer1.

Im not the expert by any means but from what I see in the specs you posted the lite is 4" shorter.. maybe that is also a factor on the overall weight difference..

But, that is packing size. Which to me means thinner material somewhere.

true.. not arguing that.. but if you take the weight of the missing material (8 x the diameter of the pontoons twice).. that would have to reduce the weight by a pound or so at least.. tplus the thinner material could account for some of the additional weight difference..

I just bought my ODC 420 and can hardly wait to take it out on the water.
After looking all over the net; the best price I found (shipped) was here...
Very fast shipping and the have a couple of locations in Fort Collins and 1 in Loveland (so no shipping?).

Hey all, thanks a bunch for the info in the ODC, you brought some points that I totally missed when I reviewed it.
Kokak, the link that you referred me to did not come through, what is the name? Thanks!

Hmmm...
That was weird.
Look up Jax Mercantile and then search for the ODC 420.
They have it listed for 179.00 and I paid 11.00 to have it shipped to California.

Found it, thanks!

Here is another store you might check out. I bought my tube from them a couple of years ago.

Looks like the tube might be a little less but the shipping on mine was 17 not 11 dollars. Just another option.
