Ice Report,
I just checked the boat launch area at Sportsmen's Park near Aberdeen today. This back water lagoon of American Falls Reservoir often ices up early compared with other places. I was disappointed to see virtually no ice - except in some of the smaller bays - and the ability to launch a boat still there.
I wish that I had better news....

Anyone have anything new on Aberdeen Sportsmans Park? I just heard yesterday that the upper end of American Falls is iced up. (don't know how thick) Still open at the dam. I want to go to Sportsmans Park tomorrow and hopefully not waste the trip.

Was out there today. The ice was 2" to 3". I followed a crack out to the middle from the boat launch and it stayed at 3" since the crack had been clear of snow back when the temperatures were sub zero.
I caught only 4 small perch with the largest at 8.0". I fished for 3 hours -- all in the same spot. The breeze may have made a difference since the poles were dancing a bit more than one would want for perch fishing. I made no attempt for trout.
The good news is that the wind cleared most of the ice so it should freeze a bit deeper tonight.
I would not say what was there today would be safe enough for the general masses. It would be ok for somebody that has the right gear and is careful. I would not recommend it for kids yet.

AF is one of the tricky ice fishing reservoirs. The edges will be soft and thin most of the winter since the level is rising on the res about 1% every 2-3 days. Also, venturing out to far on the north end and you may find soft ice from the springs and water coming from Springfield. Sportsman park and the dam are usually the safest spots. Went out today and most of the ice in sportsmans park was pretty good. Fishing was very slow we moved to several of my favorite spots and didn't even get a bite. Talked to a few other people and none were catching fish. That's just the way it goes sometimes. Maybe heading to Alexander tomorrow.
