I would like to know if anyone has some suggestions on shore fishing the berry. I do not have a boat, and have yet to catch a fish from the shore. [unsure] Any help would be appreciated

I have always done well on the soldier creek side of the reservoir. Fish the rocky banks with powerbait, worm, minnow, float any of these baits 16" below a bobber or bubble.

I am always partial to areas around Renegade Point. Last weekend we had a hayday catching rainbows in 15-20 feet of water right off shore. We would sink a bubble with a worm on 20 inches of leader, had some hits on black and gold colored jigs tipped with some worms, I would imagine that tipping with a shiner would even be better!!!! Good luck!!!

I have done well off the shore on the soldier creek side using an egg sinker and green or pink power bait on a small treble hook. I have also use half of each color. I use about a three foot leader and put just enough power bait on the hook to make it float above the sinker.

This has been very effective for rainbows. But have not been up there since the ice has come off.

Here is some excellent info. sent to me from Road, an experienced Strawberry guru!

[size 1]"Bait fishing the berry is where I excell. Nightcrawlers are my number bait, followed closely by minnows (shinners-chubs). Powerbait when nothing else is working, though I have a collection of it. It is seldomed used any more. Now if you don't mind hinking a little the Horse creek drainage area is always good this time of year. Also south of Haws point where the old road use to run around the lake has been very productive. I took an 11 and 9 cutt there last year. One off minnow the other off nightcrawler. The west side of Indian Creek along where the old irrigation ditch use to be is also another good spot. I wish I could help you out with the Soldier Creek side of the lake but I seldon fish there. The places I mentioned are pretty good for shore fishing, even when I had my boat I shore fished more than anything else. Now on Saturday when you get the Pontoon there are a couple of places I like. But be sure to ask them at the store where they have been biting. I mean they don't give away those boats anymore. Up by Jakes bay there are a couple of small island, fishing between them and the main shore has been real good in the past I haven't been there this year as yet though. Also around Sage Hen Knoll (it's also an island well it was last year anyway) fishing the south side is productive and fishing the sumerged point on the east side of the knoll is also good."[/size]

Welcome vanman, try haws point or the ladders(before the moss gets to thick.)I like using a three way swivel on one leader use a worm and pink marshmellow combo. on the second leader use power bait.I've never tried minnows(shiners) but some guys swear by them.Good Luck.[sly]-TIBBZZ-

I haven't shore fished there since I bought my boat a couple of years ago. However, I used to shore fish the 'berry a lot.

The places I usually fished were Chicken Creek West and the ledge just South of the Ladders. The best luck I had in either place was with slipping a LARGE egg sinker on, then tying on a swivel (to hold the sinker). Add 18-24" of leader below the sinker, then the hook with your bait. I usually used powerbait and the most frequent bites were on rainbow glitter powerbait.

The reason for the large sinker was to allow you to cast out to the deeper water, and past the sagebrush line at Chicken Creek. With the low water levels and the early time of the year, you may not need to cast as far.

i would recommend soldier creek side for shore fishing. better structure there, little hard to walk but alot better chance to hook fish from the rocks. i have had alot more success from shore in the soldier creek side. and you have some sort of shielding from the winds when you get into the steep banks and points over there.

I've done really good this time of year from the shore over at Bryant's Fork! You have to walk aways to get too the good spots but its usually well worth it this time of year[Wink]
