as most you all know i'm allways hutting them tiger trout.. went to one of my favrit spots today to do a ice check and see if it was ready to hunt yet..

first step the ice broke under foot.. next step solid choped a test hole 4" cool got my stuf down to the ice and started out. about 10 feet out felt a good pop in the ice.. so i slamed the ice bar down on the ice, first hit all the way through the ice,, oh poop i thought went bak the way i came and headed over to the dock's..
found the ice there better.. about 2 to 2 1/2 inchs so gave it a try.. after hitting some very light bitting small bow's just re-baited the hook droped it down set the pole down then set me down, look at the pole to see the light bite at it again.. reach down set the hook and thought i had a snag.. well that is tell the line started zipping off the reel..
the the little beast turned right for the hole and shot right out the hole on to the ice.. lol well thats one way to get them out the hole!lol
some more rainbows and time to head home!

here are the pic's..

Any info on where you caught that beast?

I noticed you have your transducer cord running straight into the hole with no pvc junk to get in the way. How do you have it set up?
[signature]
Was that at Huntington? What were you fishing with?
[signature]
My guess would be PaliSade State Park since the ice is fairly new. Huntington would probably be close to 6"-8" by now.

Hey Fuzzyfisher,
What do you think the best depth for the tigers at Scofield most of the time ? [crazy] [fishin] I nominally fish in the 15 to 20 ft. rang,
[signature]
yeah i got a ice ducer for my lowrance.. i just dont like the fome thing on there with thin ice.. it's self leveling so all i do is drop it in set for the ice thicknes and thats it!.. realy nice..

nope not huntington.. i was useing what i allways use.. pearl tube tipped with minnow..
[signature]
i have found tiger trout seam to like shalower water then rainbows do.. a lot of time i fish from 6 feet to 12 feet deep for them (except at huntington) .. but then they can be anywhere at any time.

and tell the trouth i have not fished scofield on the ice for tigers that much.. they have only been in there like 2 or 3 years.. so i'll need to get over this year and scope it out a little more.. i know there are some very big tigers there.. i just need to go hunt for them a little more! lol

[right]Thanks for the tip. I caught a few tigers today at Scofield. What size pearl tube are you using? Are you putting a whole minnow on or just a piece?

Fuzzy uses a whole minnow. His success at PaliSade and Huntington with that tactic led me to start doing the same thing last season. You can watch his Huntington ice fishing videos with the aqua view on youtube (search Huntington tiger trout), or search his other earlier posts for more info.

PaliSade is relatively shallow, the best area is around the dam. When I fish it, that's only about 8-10 feet of water. In Scofield, you can find them shallower as well, because they will often go there to eat chubs.

well i use 2 to 5 inch tubes.. most the time i got a 2 to 2 1/2 inch tube on.. at paliSades the other day i was useing whole minnows.. but they were small minnows...

[left]Thanks for the answers guys. I really appreciate it. I have had to learn fishing pretty much by myself. I love this forum when guys like you help out.

[left]Using a jig and tube that big with a whole minnow pretty much means you will only catch big fish doesn't it? The small guys won't take tubes that big will they? Thanks!

you know i have cought a lot smaller fish on that rig as well.. i think it's more for the more acttive fish that are looking to eat right now.. not just a passer by that ya have to talk into biteing..
