I thought I would bring this to the top since I am also wondering about ice conditions at Pali
es.

Talked to a buddy who drove to Jackson yesterday. No ice on most of the lake except for Big Elk creek. The canyon is completely frozen on the east side of the road and there is some ice in the bay on the main resevoir. No clue on thickness or condition of ice but I will be up to find out soon. Always a chance for a big mack up in the canyon. Lots of Kokanee too if you can find the schools.

It is gonna be a while longer. If Ririe is not froze, Pali
es will not be for quite a while. With these warm temps we are having, it may never freeze solid this year.

Hookedlikeu,
Thanks for the update; I still may give the Big Elk arm a shot--would love to get into the kokes; not to mention a mack! It looks like the good cold returns in a few days and soon will be fishing one of the best ponds in Idaho.

Good ice in the bay and canyon at Big Elk creek. The rest of the lake was trying to freeze on Sunday morning. Fished it both Saturday and Sunday and did just dandy. Ice is maybe eight inches at best and not the best quality. Be sure to bring a plank as the shore is rotten as usual. Be careful on any part of the lake other than Big Elk as it is very new ice. Good luck
