I was curious how popular was the use of a drop shot rig?

For what species do you target and how successful is it?

that rig has worked for me on rivers for bass, cat fish, gills, trout and carp

Hey there troutman,

I fish a lot on the float tube and my favorite setup is a Carolina rig, second Carolina keeper rig, and third Drop Shot rig.

Depending on the structure, I choose which to use.

I hear that more and more "Pros" are using the drop shot because it's more versatile? Would you guys agree?

I would neither agree with this statement nor would I disagree with this statement.

I usualy start fishing with what ever I used last time I was on the water then I continuously chang my rigging till I find some thing that is working at that particular moment.

some days the fish seem to prefer one rig over the other and they can go eather way. this is why I wont commit to any one thing. I keep throwing every thing at my disposal till I catch my dinner.... It is a rare ocation when I come home with out dinner.[Wink]

That absolutely makes sense. When I fish up the Sierra for trout, I continually change up my setup until I find something that works. Have you ever caught trout using this setup?

Hi there troutman,

Can't disagree with anything said. I kinda like to fish the structure I think will produce for the day and am pretty stubborn about not changing strategy very soon.

I'm familiar with a lot of the areas I fish so if I think the fishies are in say the depressions made by tides going around bridge supports, I'll be using the best rig for that structure, for that species, for that period, for that tide.
Often, it's one and the same.

I believe in working a certain rig consistantly, you'll learn how to fish it better in the long run. Some very successful flyfisherman in the old days used nothing but one pattern day in and day out and they did alright. I think, well maybe, that's what they wrote. ha ha ha

I'm lucky as I don't eat fish so most of the time my not catching fish does not disrupt my dinner plans. ha ha
