I'm bout ready to call it quits on fishing, once again. Fishing with my girl, she's got a cat rig out, i do too, but I'm also bassing. She catches a bass on her cat rig, i get nothing. So discouraging! There's a Bass Fishing 101 class at my university in March, so I'm going in hopes I'll learn some stuff...so I'm not actually going to quit fishing, I just thought Bass Fishing Anonymous had a funny ring to it...

Your not listening when she caught the bass. That tells you that the bass are feeding on the bottom. Half the battle is to figure out where in the water column the fish are at. Then what do they want to eat. This time of year you have to go slow in presentation or even let the bait sit. Thats why she caught the bass.

Well, she was getting hits shallow too. She got her bass rig and got strong hits shallow too. she just can't set the hook to save her life, to use her words. I use the same colors and everything. those fish hate me.

Are you tying her line as well as yours? Might be your scent coming off your hands while rigging up. But if you are tying both then it cant be.

It may be something as simple as line size or hook size. Then I have lures that just work better than others that appear to be the same but there is something just alittle different that makes a difference. Or maybe the fish just like her better.
What I really need to do, and what I will do as of next Wednesday when school starts is forget about fishing (until warm weather rolls around). Because I don't have the experience or anything to catch anything with the cold water deep water techniques. I can catch them in the warm weather when they're shallow. I'll worry about deep another time. I'll have too much on my plate to worry about it. Though I have found through bass fishing that I like bait cast reels more than spin cast just for the simple fact that I can cast a really long distance, and relatively accurately as well.
