I would like to give Ashton a try sometime soon. I've been glancing at the reservoir on Google Earth, but I'm not too sure how I could access the places that are pretty certain to have hard water.

Any help on where to go to get access to the bays or any fishable areas would be great. Thanks! PM me if you would prefer, and any help would be appreciated.

From what I have seen most of the access is private. I have accessed the res near the power plant and dam. If you try it be extremely careful the moving water near the dam creates dangerous ice. I usually only go there after weeks of extreme cold. I usually catch small rainbows but I have seen a large brown taken in that area.

Be really careful like I said I have found unstable ice conditions in that area many times.

Chris,

Dito with what Windriver stated; be careful near the dam. I usually fish near the east side shore area near the dam and have done well; basic methods similar to Rigby Lake. The spillway is good but stay 100 feet away from it, this too can be treacherous. I have had a solid foot of ice and then suddenly you can be on a inch. Follow the tracks of the heavy sleds. I really don't like taking risks in this area.

Thanks for the info. And I really appreciate the reminder to be extra cautious.

If anyone else has info on access points with safer water/ice on Ashton, that info would be most welcome as well. [Smile]

Thanks again Windriver and OvidCreek.

By the way, I went to Rigby lake again this morning and dragged my wife along. We got there at 7:45a.m. and stayed until a little after 9. Only had a couple bites and one fish landed. I wonder if the pressure it's received has cleaned up the leftovers, or if those little planters were playing tricks on me. [crazy][Smile]
