Not sure which bay as I heard Grey's road might be open. Would like to get to Big Sand Bay and if not either of those 2 we will be at Nortons.[fishin]

Well they opened the road in to greys and big sand bay so we went to big sandy. Boy was it slow, couldn't find the perch ( went to where we nailed them last year), not a one. One of us caught a trout right off then nothing for a long time. From 9-5:30 we landed 5 trout most of them aroung 16 & 1 18" 2.11#. My jet sled mods worked out great!

I see in your pictures that you have a Fishing Buddy fish finder. How do you like it? A friend loaned me one and I was pretty disappointed on the first trip out. Then, before the second try, I read the owner manual and followed its advice by turning on the fish finder and the background light before leaving the warmth of the vehicle. Since the owners manual indicated that it may not work below 14 deg, I decided I would also wrap it in an insulation layer as well. On the second trip I was very impressed. Using it, we turned a pretty slow day into a so-so day and increased our catch by about 1/3 per my estimation. I thought that was pretty good for my second time using it. I hope that as I become more familiar with it, I'll be able to make it more effective. I used some old foam rubber and duct tape and made a more permanent insulation cover layer. I'll be giving it a try at the DC tournament this week end. Have you got any tips I might find useful with FB?

Not really, but I would play with the gain and in using the side finder I would check things out at the different ranges and keep in mind the cone angle is 9 degrees, so that would help on the stepping off and how big of an area to consider. Also you should probably turn off the fish alarm.

Was at Big Sand Bay last saturday and the ice was still good 8" was the least I found.

Have you caught walleye through the ice at Salmon Falls? If so what are you using to catch them? I've tried about everything and no luck. Not holding my mouth right I guess.

yes I actually caught 3 last year but was fishing for perch so not sure what that means and is probably not really much help.
