Went to Newton sunday 18th with the family and didn't get any bites or see any fish ( fish T.V. ) in our last spots we fished the weekends before. Walked over and talked to some other fisherman and they told us they were picking up Crappies on there fish finder. So I asked them if it would be ok to set up a little north of them and they said no problem. to make a long story short, 6 year old daughter stepped into hole got wet but wouldn't stop fishing and son also loving it. The wife also caught fish. we caught about 20 crappie the biggest about 8 in. Saw lots of fish on fishfinder. Ice about 8 in. thick.

Nice job and sure glad your family had fun...that was us you chatted with...we picked up 6 8" Perch and lost count of the Crappie as we were just letting all the fish go on this trip...it was a lot of fun...plus nowhere near the fish'n pressure as the other waters...great pics of the family...we'll be doing Newton again...little bit of a drive for us but well worth it just to get a little solutide and away from the crowds and overall noise on the ice.

new to the group but was wondering where you were fishing at. I live 20 minutes from newton and want to take my boy there to catch some crappie. Any advise would be helpful thank[fishin]

Up past the ramp past the first point maybe 75 yards and out say 50 & 75 yards fromshore in 25-30' of water...the bite was soft and they we're finiky...liked the vertical profile jigs over the horizontal profile...with the flasher I iced 3 Crappie in 4 minutes max...but you had to entice them to bite by dropping the lure all the way down watching it on the flasher raise if above them then jig slighly raising and lowering the lure to pick up an interested fish...then again with the flasher you just coaxed the bite...it was a real good time...GOOD LUCK to you and your boy.
