Well me and my buddy's made it out and had a good time yesterday. The morning was slow so we followed our fish finder AKA Leon. The fishing picked up in the afternoon and we landed some fish 12" to 18" tossed back four and missed numerous strikes. We fished just off the bottom in 10' to 15' water and used paddle bugs tipped with worms and mill worms. We followed the advise of previous postings, this aided our fishing trip allot so thanks for all the great reports. [cool]

Sorry about the fish caught pic (don't know why it's messed up) Maybe this one will work better.

Where do you buy Paddle Bugs , I keep hearing people are doing well on them and would like to buy some . Thanks Curt G.

Most walmarts have them and Sportmans warehouse.

I like the white, pink, and chartruse colors. They are dirt cheap and work well. Buy a bunch because the hooks are cheap and so you will replace them often.

If it helps, I just bought a bunch of paddlebugs at http://www.crappielures.com/ They have a good selection, and their customer service was really good.

Thinking about going to Island park with the kids this Saturday....haven't been up yet this season so pardon the silly question but is the ice safe? Thickness?

Welcome to the board. I hope someone who has been up there recently can tell you the ice depth. There have been plenty of people on it lately.

thanks for the welcome, long time lurker decided to join. Have been fishing Ririe and the sketchiness of the ice kept me from bringing the kids out. Even with the colder nights I'm still leery of the ice there. Figured IP would be safer and its sixes for us between Ririe and IP

Most years the snow causes lots of slush on the ice and some layering of the ice. I haven't been there since before Christmas and all of the heavy snow.

thats what I was wondering if we'd be standing in shin deep slush water but I don't know if it's warmed up enough

I fished Island Park Monday . The ice is 18" to 20" and had 8" of snow on it then . When you go stay in shallow water . 5' to 15' . There are alot of people fish out to far and not doing very well . Monday I landed 20 fish and kept 5 . Curt G. P.S. No Slush this year so far .
