Hey Idahoians Some buddies and I are going up to Henrys lake in mid September. I know it's a long ways off but I am looking for some good resources as far as reading as much as we can before we go. Any suggestions on books? I will be searching the archives on this site too but just wanted to see what you guys thought.

We are coming from Utah but don't worry, we've all had our shots and have been to obedience school.[Wink]

There's a book called "fishing Henry's Lake" (I think). Can't remember the authors name, but last summer/fall this came up and I can't remember how many people on this board swore by getting it and knowing it, living, memorizing it. It is mostly geared toward flyfishing but a lot of the information would be very helpful for other types of fishing, like maps of the lake and such. I have yet to find a book that really gives much info on things like trolling or using bait up there. As you get closer to the time you will be there make frequent posts looking for info in here and call some of the places around the lake like Wild Rose, and the State Park area.

I think you are talking about Bill Shies . I probably spelled that wrong . He has a shop at Ponds Lodge in Island Park . Everybody says that the best book on Henry's Lake . Curt G.

Bill only guides a few days out the year anymore, but you can still learn a lot about Henrys Lake by reading Bill Schiess' book Fishing Henry's Lake. Things change from year to year, but you can still learn a lot from that book. You can also contact Flygoddess or Everett14 they know quite a bit about the lake as well.

Hi Guys

Just a point of clarifcation on some items. I was not sleeping decided to come on and see what was up. I noticed this post on Henry's Lake. We bought the business from Bill a few years ago. He still guides with us but this coming year will be limited as mentioned by Windriver. Bill is the Guru of Henry's and is a valuable resource to us and others. His Book is awesome with alot of valuable information. We have Bill's book in stock and can provide you a copy. You can go on line to [url "http://www.bsflies.com"]www.bsflies.com[/url] and send an email to me for the book and other questions folks might have. I was there at the shop "BS Flies" in October and November so Im sure it's still there [Wink] I have to head that way to pull some stuff out if it so I will check on it. We will be there again unless something wierd happens. Stop in and chat---if we are not there call or find us on the lake. Happy Fishing

Tybugs1- are we talking about the fly shop at Pond's Lodge ? I was there from the 19th of Oct to the 22nd.
Shop was empty- closed and I talked to the guy at Pond's and he said it was closed down ????????????????
Really it was Pond's- Blueberry Pancakes and all.

That late in the year it was only open Friday and Saturday.

Late in the year packfish. We are around even though the Shop is closed. We are better fishermen than shop keepers Smile Just call when your up that way. There is someone always up there. We just spend more time on the water than in the shop Smile

Yea, and if you need supplies, just get a hold of TYBUGS and he will meet you in the parking lot of his favorite gas station[laugh]
Still wonder what the people thought with us hanging around your truck with a lot of little baggies.
I would have loved a cop to pull up and ask what we were up to[crazy]

BWITTY, we head up there for a week in September...maybe we will see you.
Can't help you with bait and lures, but you can troll a fly. I even have extra gear. We could do a Fly Fishing 101...LOL

Everett, did you grow any more? This kid is already like 7' tall.

I wonder too. That particuliar gas station is known for it's "Buys" and "Baggies". [:p] Would have been fun.

I will meet fly fishermen most anywhere. I have even delivered flies to people on the lake [Wink]

If we can keep Everet from Hiding the shop will be okay he he he

How you guys been anyway?
