Welcome to BFT. I wish I had a report for Utah Lake, but I keep getting my butt kicked over there. Go slay them and post some pictures for us.

All I can say and all I have heard for the whole season is SLOW. Anywhere I have gone, has been slow. Weird year this one is.
You can catch a bluegill or a perch here and there.. But the whites just never really showed up anywhere in numbers like they usually do.

Well I will be going to UL on sat. and give it a shot! How are the ice conditions on the North end does anyone know? I will be out there with my 2 boys so I want it to be safe and fun!!!

That ice is some of the safest you'll find in the state. Last saturday, after 2 warm days and lots of rain. It was 18" inside the pumphouse channel area. And one foot out on the lake.

Thanks for the info! Was the fishing good at the pumphouse or better on the lake?
[cool]It has been slow at the pumphouse lately. Right next to the building used to be amazing, but has recently been raped and pilleged. It's been hit really hard and there's trash everywhere - wax worm containers, cigaret butts, pastacio seeds, worm containers, etc... Kind of like when you post your favorite little holes on this (or other boards) and you go back to fish it and it's been trashed...[pirate][pirate]

It's a little slow in the channel as well, but you will catch the occassional white bass or bluegill every half hour or so...

I would recommend finding a new spot in other harbors or near reeds where it's at least 5 feet deep. You can do really well at spots like that...

I live in Saratoga Springs, just to the west of the lake and have had decent success in the last couple of weeks for bluegill and white bass.

The edges were a little soft this last week, but I have been fishing on the lake where there is plenty of ice.

Good luck. I need to get down there again.

Well I will head out sat. and see if I can Ice a few fish and let everyone know how it went. Thanks for all the help!!!

come on down we will be there sat!

Well, like out4trout said. It was hot at one point by the pumphouse. The channel never really got hot this year as it has in years past. There is nothing wrong with doing a little exploring and finding some water with a little depth and see if you can get something to tap your line. Chances are it's gonna be slow.
Now, on posting Utah lake. I have my own opinions about it. In the last 3 years it has grown in popularity as a fishing destination, especially on the ice. Used to be you could go out there and see a couple people.. if that. But now, places get slammed and raped. Only thing left is garbage and the occasional pile of Human Mierda (Yep, I saw it last week). It's driving me nuts! It's not BFT's fault.. The lake is within 45 minutes of maybe 80% of the states population. and something happened in the last 2-3 years where all of a sudden there are a lot of people that fish the north side.
Unfortunately for me, the only thing I can do that makes me feel like I am benefiting the lake.. is not report my trips on the forum. Very Sad considering all the info I get off of here. But it's for the well being of my own fishing spots. If I report that I got a limit of crappie, I wouldnt see another crappie for who knows how long.

I don't expect anyone to share secret spots or secret lures with me or anyone else! I have been Ice fishing and caught fish when no one else is and also been skunked when everyone else is slamming them!!! I am just looking to have fun with my boys this weekend! [Smile] For me it is all about the time you spend with your friends and family! It is to bad that people have to trash the place for everyone else (or catching way over their possession limit)
Well said [#000000]waljustia.[/#000000]

I totally agree with you on no sharing your spots. But some little tips on how to fish a certain lake or what you did to catch them might help those few of us who have never fished a certain lake such as UL learn how to fish. Nothing is better than a little trial and error. Im sure giving some tips as to what you were fishing with, without giving away your complete lure set up, would be ok. You dont even have to tell where you were.

Im gonna try and hit UL for the first time tomorrow. Gonna go explore a little and see what i can find. Hope to see some fellow bftrs out there.

You know, I agree with you. I just went on a little tangent. The thing is that you just need to be careful reporting a successful day. And, if it was a sucky day, Make sure and report that Smile. PM's are a great way to share successful information for your group of friends. But again, UT Lake I think is just a little different because it's so close to such an enourmous amount of population. People see success there on forums, tell their friends.. and to their freedom.. they go gangbusters on the lake. Catch nothing, and leave a lot of trash behind.

There are a lot of people that like to use the Hedon Sonars thru the ice there for the white bass. When they are active and you can find them, you can fill a bucket w/ the fish just from that one lure. But the problem with that lure is it only works when you're around the whites and they're active. So far this year, nobody has really found a lot of white bass. Espeshally active ones. So try out some of your small ice flys/bugs w/ a wax worm on them. Maybe you'll score a big bluegill or crappie . I am always surprised at the stature of the big bull bluegills from UT Lake.

[cool]Well said, waljustia. Couldn't have said it better...

Well... I just had to share my .02 cents of frustration on that one... My son's and I had a good day pulling some muddies out by the Pumpstation last June, but by later Summer I felt like I as visiting the city dump. I always take what trash I find, but I could have filled two garbage bags just from what was in site from the one spot. [/#000000][#000000] No part of me understands how people could leave trash like that...

I'll never go back there. So, I went out and bought an old boat so I don't have to sit on a bank as my only option.

I've commented on this before, and being from LA - I could go to picnic areas there and not see a single gum wrapper. There are a TON of people there, and it's understood that nature is a priority, and to preserve what is there. But here, my experience is that many folks don't change their opinions very easily - and one of those opinions is that there is a lot of natural beauty - so it's OK to trash a good thing...

My son picked up a beer bottle someone left on the ice at Echo last Sat and put it in our sled. I was proud of him. [/#000000][#000000]So, I would challenge each BFT'er to pick up some piece of trash that wasn't theirs. Every little bit helps.[/#000000]
[#000000]
Thus endeth my editorial.

I completely agree with you. And thanks for the info. I'll post how well I do.

My Dad (macscabin) and I went fishing off the west side of what used to be the island at Deer Creek for some bass and perch last summer. The whole way around the side was just full of trash that people left behind. We were both completely disgusted with the trash that have been left behind. Even as a little fisherman this ethic has been taught to me: "Whether fishing, camping, or just there for a picnic always leave the site better than when you got there."

Most of the ice fishing reports for UL refer to the north end. Without mentioning specific spots, has anyone had any success on the east or south? Whites, Bluegills, Crappies, etc?
[signature]
I took my daughter to Lindon a while back. She got one nice Bluegill and I got skunked. Saw one guy get a white bass but that's all I saw caught. Very slow, I have to agree with the others, just to much pressure because it's so close to so many people.
