Has anyone ever fished at Fish Creek Reservoir? It is just a small lake near Carey. I have heard that there were some big trout in there but the fishing isn't much good anymore.

On the fish and game website they haven't stocked it since 06. Also looking for info on the web I found an article about the dam not being very good and needing repairs.

I been trying to get some info on some good fishing waters around me, so this spring I can go test out my boat. I have alot of time this winter to sit and think about fishing, so I will really be itching to go this spring.

Mostlikely it would be poor fishing as it get drained down to far during the irrigation season.

My wife and I fished Fish Creek some years ago and had a good time. At that time there were plenty of trout but all we caught were small; maybe 9 or 10 inchers. Not many other fishermen. Any water is worth a try....good luck!

[Smile] I cut my teeth ice fishing on Fish Creek reservoir. Quite a fertile lake that grew the rainbow trout to 3 or 4 pounds and some nice brookies to 1-1 1/2 lbs. The concrete on the dam is crumbling before our eyes and rated unsafe to some point. The irrigation company can't raise the money privately and Federal funds are in short supply to rebuild private dams, so the dam continues to crumble.
A friend and I enjoyed 12 years ago jigging off bottom with curly tailed jigs with a piece of worm. Hooked two or three fat 3- lb trout with his son losing one at the boat that went about 5-lbs. Caught several others in the 12-14" range. Good times are over there unless they can rebuild the dam.[frown] DeeCee

Thats too bad about the dam. DeeCee, sounds like you got some good fishing in while it was there. I guess I can cross that lake off my list. I will have to concentrate on Mackay res. I guess. Thanks for the help guys.

[Image: normal_DSC00003.JPG]The The damn was breeched a few years ago due to lack of funding since it is privately owned. I tried a little fishing there and did not due to well. The boats docks are out of the water since the dam was breeched. Here are a few pics from there.

[Smile] You are welcome! You might consider fishing Little Wood Reservoir. The road to it turns off the main highway running through the little town of Cary, Idaho on the north end of town. From there it is up a beautiful wide canyon of farm homes and agricultural fields to the reservoir. Seems like about 12 to 16 miles or so. The reservoir is nestled amongst some beautiful mountains with sagebrush and flowers in early summer. If you look to the north you can see the beautiful Saw Tooth Mountains capped with snow. Me and my daughter and my elderly father had a great time catching some hatchery trout from shore and the fishing was good using night crawlers. Has rainbows and an occasional wild brookie. In its the neighborhood of Fish Creek reservoir about 20 miles away.

Sounds good DeeCee, I will have to give it a try. I also thought about heading to Magic since it isn't much farther. I didn't know there were that many lakes around me until I started doing some looking.

I live in the Little Lost River valley and have been pretty much a fly fisherman, hitting mostly alpine lakes and the small river and creeks here. So this boating and big water stuff is pretty new to me, but it is exciting learning new waters. Thanks alot, Jake

I love fishing the high mountain lakes also, in the Sawtooth Mountains. My father grew up as a boy fishing Magic Reservoir with his parents and 7 other siblings. They fished off the Minidoka Dam that backs up Magic Reservoir for yellow perch and trout. Last year my father wanted to go visit his boyhood fishing haunt so I took him and my daughter over to fish there. When we got to the dam we were shocked at how low the water was so we headed over to Little Wood Reservoir and had a great time.

I like to have a backup place to fish incase my first choice bombs. Many times it has saved the day as happened last year when Magic was so low(see attached picture of Magic Reservoir in July). DeeCee
