My son and I are hoping to go to Ririe tomorrow and I was researching the limits. The regs say "Trout: 6".
Does this mean a total of six trout of any kind; ex... 6 rainbow, 6 kokes, 6 browns = 18 fish in total. Or 6 fish total; 3 rainbow + 3 kokes?
I realize this is a rather simple question but it is one that I have not encountered before. Usually we are targeting a single species. The ID F&G regs can be rather confusing and I want to be sure that we are legal.

6 Total , any combination of trout or salmon . There is no limit on Perch , Keep all you want to clean . Curt G.

what if a guy caught his limit at Ririe and decided to head to another lake like Pali

6 per day total . I have went to Henry's lake and caught my 2 fish limit and then stopped at Island park and caught 4 to get my six fish for the day . Curt G.

That particular detail I believe is listed on the first part of the regional bag/possession limits in the regs. It says "in the aggregate of all trout species" under the listing of species included under trout.

Another Question, i here guys saying they want to or have filled there freezer full of fish while they are posting about another great day on the lake and they caught there limit again. Under my understanding you can only have 6 in possesion whether it be back in SLC utah in your freezer or in your sled that your pulling back to your truck regardless of how many days fished, does that sound correct????? that is how i have always done it, 6 fish in possesion and your done harvesting. Any info is appreciated.

My understanding is that once you have caught your limit (6 being the number discussed here) you must eat them or have delivered them to another person who is going to eat them (not in your household, i.e. gave as a gift) so they are no longer in your limit. So Basically if you limit out on kokes at Ririe on Monday then eat 3 that night, no Tuesday you could catch and keep 3 more which would bring you to 6 limit in the aggregate again. Now if you eat those 3 and the 3 remaining from Monday you are down to 0 and on Wednesday you can catch and keep 6 more. At least this is the intention of the law as it was explained to me. It's hard to enforce if like I said you have some at home in the freezer and the F&G check you out on the lake and you only have 4. I have yet to hear of anyone being asked "and do you have more fish at home in your freezer?"

I would take what people say on here with a grain of salt.
For example I might say I caught my limit of Kokes and then tomorrow post that I had another great day and limited out again. The problem is sometimes I keep some for a meal and sometimes I just catch and release, or like the other night when I said I caught 30, I kept five and then caught and released for a long time until I decided to go home then I kept my last one.
So is what I'm saying is we should all be responsible and follow the law, but we should be careful about judging what someone says on an internet formum because they might have mistated what happened or we might misinterpret the event.

Ririe is a long drive for me 8 hours round trip to only bring home 6 fish and i was hoping maybe for some reason i could bring home more.kokanee fishing is slow down where i am from and Those little kokes are perfect size for the smoker and taste good.

if your staying more than one day a smoked or cooked fish doesnt count as a possession limit. at leaste thats how it is in steelhead if we are going for a couple weeks we always end up bottling a few, we can keep fishing

I don't think so . There was a couple up from Utah that was staying at henery's Lake Camp ground . They were taking there limit back to camp every day and canning them . They got busted big time . One limit in your possession , it don't mater how many days you are going to be fishing . This is for trout and Kokanee . Not Steelhead they are different . Curt G.

Here's one that I hadn't really thought about...if you have a little one with you that doesn't need a license and they are fishing with you, their fish count goes towards your bag limit. Just as well...or else we would have guys bringing borrowed kids from all over the place out on the ice and out to the river!

Actually the law is very clear on this issue. Your kids have their own limit. Just make sure they are catching it and not you.

Not True . If they are catching the fish . They get there own limit . Unless you are from out of state . Then the kids fish count on the out of state license holders limit . Unless they buy the child his own license and then they can have there own limit . I Think . Correct me if I am wrong . I am getting youst to it . Thanks Curt G.

i think a out of state kid can still catch there own limit. i hope they can anyway buddy of mine does it all the time.
just checked they dont sell licenses to out of state kids below age of 14 so i think they can still catch there own limit
