I found the sun yesterday - it's always the last place you look. It was at FL. We arrived at the marina on the south end at 8:15. The fishing was slow untill noon - caught 3 bow, 3 dink perch and 2 dink splake. We had intended to go across to the east side when we arrived, but the distance on foot discouraged us. At noon we could see people over there but were not sure if they were doing any better than us. We decided to go across. It took 30 minutes, but was well worth the hike. We left by 3:00 and figured we had caught and released 20 fish each. All were caught on tube jigs tipped with meal worms or perch meat - oops one fish was caught on a night crawler.
The day was georgeous - of course we got on the ice before sunup so we forgot the sunscreen and it was too far back to the truck to retrieve it - bad choice, shaving for work this morning was torture. I do not know the temperature but we were down to shirt sleeves by the time we left. The pressure ridge was 2' wide, open water on the way back. We skirted around it back to the truck. What a great day to see the sun.

Great report. It's nice to know that the whole lake hasn't gone slow like the West side has. Maybe the faster action on the East side is what will motivate us to get a little cardio vascular work out in as we seek for bettering our chances. Who say's
Ice Fishing isn't connected to our New Year's Resolutions? (I'm just speaking for myself here in the weight loss area of my life)

It was a good workout walking across the lake - good for the cardio. It is great when something you enjoy doing helps motivate you to do something good for your health. Now maybe the heart will go long enough for the sunburn to turn into skin cancer LOL.

can i ask how deep of water you were fishing in when you hiked to the east side? and what was the ice like?

That is the reason that I always put on suncreen at home before leaving for any day-time fishing trip.

This was my first time to the east side so it took a while to figure out the depths. The first hole we put down was out from the bank maybe 50 yards - we were in 94' - we didn't find any fish there. I move very close to shore and found about 20 ' with some fish. The last hole was in about 40' of water and that was the ticket. The ice was fine on the way across - some patchy wind blown snow. The pressure ridge was solid on the way out, but opened up by the time we came back. I'm not a jumper so we walked around with no problem. The ice was around 12" every where we drilled.

That is a good idea - I won't forget next time.
