Frozenover and I hit Strawberry along with my future son in law.
We took the snowmobiles and gear and headed out.
We wanted to get away from the crowds. We headed out into the Renegade area. We found a spot that we had caught fish in years past.
We stopped and started setting up and drilling holes. A group of people on snowmobiles and a four wheeler came in and set up about 15 yards from us. They even made a couple of loops around us on the snowmobile.
We were guessing we were in their spot. So much for getting away from everyone.
Scotty caught a cutt on his first drop and we thought we had hit the right spot. He caught a rainbow short after the cutt.
I caught two cutts right off as well. One was 17" and the other was 19". I missed few and had two come off.
Frozenover was a little slow getting started but once he did he caught fish pretty steady all day. He ended up with 10 on the ice and a few that came off on the way up.
I ended up catching 8 or 9, I am not sure.
The wind picked up midmorning and it got pretty cold then. We had one of the airboats come over and setup kind of close to us. When they tried to leave, the boat was stuck to the ice and it took them a while to get it untracked. While they were doing that, they covered us up with a wind and ice storm. One really appreciates that when you are cold already.
We should have moved during the day, but about the time we decided to move, someone would catch another fish, so we stayed.
All in all, it was a fun day. Once we got inside the tents, the temp wasn't bad at all and the coats came off.
We didn't talk to any one who had done very well during the day.
