I decided to ignore reports of declining numbers in burbot at lost dog and was greatly rewarded. There was plenty and all had shoulders on them.
We got there around three set up camp and played around for awhile. Decided to drill out deeper for some macks but no luck there. Ice out in the middle of blacks is about 24" after a brutal week of work that was no bueno with the manuel auger.
After all the fun and games we started burboting about five. Instantly my nephew had a 20"er. Five minutes later he had another in the same hole. Little man got side tracked a little later and Amy starts running to his hole. Why he left his pole and into the drink it went. I re-rigged him with another and back to catching. I'd say about a half hour after that incident he nailed a fish in the same hole. After a good fight we pulled this 24" pig out and noticed another line coming out of it's mouth. Well there was a fishing pole on the other end. SCORE.(I'll try to get video on the web)
Sevenish we took it in the shelter and really started slaying them. Getting great shots with the aqua view. I hooked into the biggest burbot i've caught to date, losing it at the hole. One minute later he gave me another try and this time we got him. He measured 31" very fat, very big head. Me and little man ended up with eight each, all over 20" with two dinks. Lost about ten, doubled up once, and again the best under water shots we've ever had. We called it at ten due to being stinking beat
We had a blast though. I brought the lovely Adrienne, my niece Amy and nephew Max. The girls were curious and had a blast and glad they came.
Lost Dog is alive and well, some people there didn't catch a damn thing. But others were doing good too. Get em while the ice is thick.
