Hey I'm from Utah my oldre brother is a military veteran who lost his leg in Iraq. He is Ice Climbing near Ouray Colorado this weekend. I am an avid ice fisherman and I am going to drive over to watch him climb. I thought i'd like to try doing some Ice fishing while i'm over there. I'd be up for a 2-3 hour drive from Ouray...any recomendations on where I should try my luck at doing some fishing? Any advice would be great thanks guys!

You have a wealth of possibilities within 2-3 hours of Ouray, chief among them being Ridgeway Res. for browns, Blue Mesa Res. for everything that swims in Colorado, and TaylorPark Res. for all species, too.

Personally, I would spend every minute I could on Blue Mesa!

Thanks for the advice! If I were to try Blue Mesa...is there anywhere in particular you would recommend I start or should I just look for good access? Thanks again!

I don't know that lake well, but I do know people catch a lot of fish of all species in the Middle Bridge area and it's very easy access.

Just wanted to say thanks for your input! I was going to fish ridgeway until I arrived to see 100% open water! I decided to trek over to Blue Mesa and it was a blast! I got there at 7am and fished until 1pm. I started off the rocks right near the bridge in 25ft and I iced 6 browns in the 14-17" range...then I moved out to 75ft and I iced two laker pups....20&22"!!! Thanks for your advice!
