Launched out of Grasshopper this morning. Water temps were around 43 degrees. Fished a point with traps and Silver Buddies. Caught 2 keeper crappie but no green fish. Ran up to the Hiwasee where I ran into jsb and Shark. Both having a pretty decent day. Caught 3 non keeper green fish on the Buddy in 12 ft of water. Ran back to the river and was about to run in a creek. Saw a ton of fish stacked on top of each other in 30 feet of water where the creek emptied into the main channel. Tied on a white, 1 oz, Dixie Jig Works spinnerbait and slow rolled it along the edge of the drop and on the bottom. Nothing. No matter what speed I was reeling, they wouldn't take it. Was about ready to leave when I tossed the blade out 1 more time, let it hit the bottom, then ripped it up 5-6 feet. DINNERTIME! Got slammed by a 3 lber with a bunch of black spots all over it including around the left eye and across the bridge of its nose.It looked like it had a mask on. Read somewhere that they are actually birthmarks, Spent the next 2 hours pulling up a mix of mostly non keepers but did manage two more keepers including another close to 4 lbs. The water warmed to 46 degrees by the time I put the boat on the trailer.
