I have been meaning to go camp out on the ice at Starvation res. I dont even know if the Ice is safe their or not. If anybody has been their this year i would love some info. I was thinking night hollow would be good but maybe their is a better spot to find the walleye in the winter. If you have ice fished their in past years that info could be useful too. what types of lure/jugs/bait do they seem to prefer. thanks a bunch if anybody replies.

any luck fishing? It looked way sketchy. Cool pic though. I would think that nights hollow has better ice conditions because it isnt so deep, but the water comes in from the inlet back their too so I guess I just have to drive back their and find out. thanks for helpin!!!

the fishing was slow. we caught a few perch and a chub. didn;t know that there were chubs in starvation. we've had good sucess for the eyes in the summer but can't find them through the ice. we'll look for your report on your success.

I might be interested in joining you on this adventure. When are planning try it. I work very close to Starvation and can give you an update and photos of the ice condition following a quick drive by. I fished the bay next to the bridge about two weeks ago during the day for a couple of hours with no luck. The ice there was about 9" thick but looked sketchy in the main body of the lake.

Lots of Chubs Sewfish, Nansea caught on last year that was near too 2 lbs probably state record.

Chubs are good for Starvation. Too many predators, not enough forage.

I will probably go next Monday and Tue., It depends on the weather. I want to see if the cold air that blew in the past day will freeze it up a little better for the next week. I went to deer creek today got skunked but was tryin out in the middle of the lake to see if I could get lucky. It was so cold that we only lasted about four hours. Everybody left we saw left early, they must have gotten a wind burnt face too. WOW.

I have a light I designed to shine down into the water on a round float for night fishing. Do you think it would work to set it down over a hole while ice-nightfishing? SEEMS like it would bring the bait in...

nope light is a waist for all the perch are sleeping. fish off the dam on the submerdge island. its about 200 yrd west of the shack and 50 yrds from shore. walleyes will come up onto it about 4.30 then be gone by 5 or so. red jighead with a half crawler. or a small jigging rapala tipped with crawler . fish it 2 inches off the bottom. use wire strike indacators. thats the only place ive caught them ice fishing starvation. good luck.[

I am not sure about the light springbuck. I do know that some fish are attracted to it. Sometimes I night fish at lake Powell off the docks at night. Some of the lights by the pump stations are very bright. I have found that the stripers are very aggressive when I chum in the bright light at those spots. Maybe Walleye have the same habits but I can only speculate.
not a bad idea though if you were trying to use an underwater fish camera at night.

Perch sleep at night, huh? Interesting.
Last I used it was many years ago at Willard. WE floated it next to a canoe near the north marina and caught a LOT of crappies, back when the crappie were really "ON" up there, some largemouth and catfish in the late spring.. Just occurred to me to use it for ice fishing..

If the perch are sleeping and the light won't wake 'em up' I could hook you up with a recording of my wife snorin', gets me every time[:p]
20 some years ago when I first tried ice fishing (Willard Bay)we would clear any snow on the ice and fish in 10-15 feet of water with as many lanterns as we could gather in between a circle of holes and it sure seemed to make a difference in the # of walleye and crappie caught.
