[cool][#0000ff]The location and water have been secured and everything is ready. But, DWR has still not been able to find a disease free source for musky eggs to hybridize with our own northern pike. They are looking all over but every time they find a new source the VHS virus turns up in the samples they test. We definitely do not want that in Utah.[/#0000ff]

As TuberDuder mentioned, the UDWR hasn't been able to find any clean sources for musky.
One thing to remember, this is NOT just a Utah problem. All western states are having this same problem (acquiring clean musky). It is a Federal Law that prevents the transport of VHS infected fish across state lines. So -- even if Utah decided to take a chance (which they wouldn't) we still couldn't get the eggs. This is a very big problem for numerous states across the country. It isn't going to be an easy fix.

The northerns for the program have allready been aquired from Recapture Res. in Southeastern Utah. Another project that is coming up is the capture of Channel Catfish from Lake Powell to rear at the facility for use in the Urban Fisheries Program. I believe that it will be in late April or early May. Contact Drew for details. Progress is being made !!!
