Hi everyone,

I just purchased my first pontoon, an ODC Sport XL.
Does anyone have any advice on the chair for this boat?
I'm 6'4", 240lbs and the seat doesn't look all that good for a person my size. I was thinking of buying a fold chair that I see everyone has on their boats, but if you folks say this chair is comfortable you would save me some cash.

I am so excited to get my 'toon out on the water for the first time. Waiting for the ice to get off the lakes in Colorado is killing me, though. My favorite lakes are at 10-12,000 feet, so it will be May before I can get out on them (hopefully).

I'm currently fabricating my rod holders for the pontoon out of PVC. The information and suggestions I have received from this site on modding have been great!

If there are any pontooners in Colorado, or any other mountainous area, do you take your boats out in the winter when there is no ice on the lakes, or is it just too cold?

Last question. Do you folks name your pontoon? My wife said I need to name my boat.

Thanks for the advice and help, and I hope to post many pictures of all the big fish I'll catch from my pontoon this year!

Welcome Knotthead. At first I thought you were my husband...just kidding.

I think you are the one that will have to decide on the set.
There are several here that like one seat while others don't, it is your rear that will be planted there[Wink]

As far as tooning this time of year, if there is no ice on a body of water, then the temps aren't freezing, I would go for it for sure. Your hands and feet might get cold and by all means, practice common sense in wearing a lot of layers and the PFD. Plus weather changes hard and fast right now so watch that also.

Love to hear about your mods and experiences.
Hope you make this a new home to hang out on.

I'm in Denver and float tube quite a bit. I usually shut it down early December weather permitting. I have fished Forebay in Leadville in Feb though.
I just use a base layer under fleece and nylon waders. It's not too bad escecially if you are catching fish. Where abouts in Colo? What lakes do you frequent? Welcome to the site!

Hi Hammer,

I am also in Denver.
I usually do not fish any of the lakes near town. I like to get as far away from people as possible.

Favorite lakes would be: Jefferson, Turquoise, Twin Lakes, Red feather and Granby would be my ones near here. I want to try and hike into Strontia and Cheesman lakes this summer and 'toon. I grew up on the Western Slope, so all my great fishing spots are over there.

I've fly-fished my whole life, and only took up lake fishing about a year ago. At least I'll be able to get out on the lakes now when spring runoff blows out the rivers.
