Hit Yuba this morning at the PR ramp with a friend... The ice is still good (10") and the edges are holding up, no plank needed on or off 7am - 4pm, even saw a wheeler "hop" on (hop since he busted the first little bit)... no bad at all though...
Went out Northwest of the island and the perch bite in 16ft of water was excellent this morning. 3 of my perch were big tipping just over 12.5" and FAT! the rest were 10"s and a couple for bait. I got excited filleting and missed the pic opportunity, but you all know what perch look like and i stopped just shy of a limit.
The bite DIED, dead, gone, nada, zilchO at about 11, based on Tuesdays visit I didn't take my wheeler so I didn't move around (I should have taken the wheeler, it might as well sit at the bottom of Yuba as sit at home).... The weather was kinda funky so maybe that was why the bite died... Mid morning something with teeth decided it needed my 2" tube jig more than I did and performed a tubectimy.... My pike pole on the other hand sat motionless (minus wind) all day... Now this is the third jig I have lost to a toothy creature so guess what I will be doing tomorrow.... yes, converting all Yuba rigs to "invisa-wire" leaders... perch typically don't care to much about wire vs mono, I guess they aren't line shy... at least in my experience, as I have mentioned before I seem to catch em on large jigs and steel leaders frequently at Yuba.... no so much at DC, PV or the Nelle - different Perch family I guess...[cool] - LAM
The wheeler group was doin some excellent cheers throughout the morning so I am gonna guess they did pretty good... there were a couple other groups around the island with kids building castles in the snow so I am guessin the bite there was spotty [
] but that is just a WAG....
With the forecast I am going to guess Yuba will be good to go through the week.... I will be back Tuesday night more than likely....
