I live in Draper and I am bringing some scouts Ice Fishing this weekend. I want to go somewhere close where the ice is pretty safe. Any ideas? I have been to the "PORT" got skunked. I was thinkgin of Deer Creek but not sure about this warm weather. Is there open water there? How thick is the ice? I alos thought about Scofiedl where the drive is longer, but we don't have to worry about the ice. Can anyone give me Ice conditions, fishing for East Canyon, Echo, Jordanelle? Thanks

East Canyon has been good to us our last couple of trips up there. And there's always scout groups up there on the ice.

How is the ice? Does it get soft around the edges later in the afternoon?

Yes the biggest problem with east canyon is its soft edges. The main lake is plenty safe and you should be able to get into a few fish. I would highly recommend the taylors hollow area it seems to produce good numbers every outing and you should get into some fish. I would just say to bring a plank just in case so there is no worrys.
