Had the itch that needed scratching and called Cecil to go to Guntersville. He was willing to go and hooked up his Ranger and off we went.
Put in at the city park and the water temp was 38 degrees. He was unsure if the fish would bite and I assured there would be some caught.
We idled to the other side of the area and started to fish. Did I mentioned it was 25 degrees at the time?
Throwing rattle traps he set the hook within 5 cast and the rod bowed hard. I went for the net and he finally got the fish to the boat. It was a longnose gar tialed hooked and got the pliers and did quick surgery. A few cast later he again set the hook and got the fish to the boat and it was a Great Lakes pearch snagged, Again, released the fish and I told him this was not a " see how many different species he could catch" and bass was the target.
Finally a bass took the rattle trap and then boated netted and released,
I was throwing the red and he was throwing the royal shad. Red was NOT the color of the day in this area.
After 2 more was caught and released, we went exploring. To make this shorter, we fished other pockets, coves, on the river and caught bass in each areas.
We ended up with 12 keepers ranging from 3 to 4 pounds. Off the water about 2 and headed back to Georgia.
