[#000000]OCEAN CITY, MD--A migratory striped bass caught off of Assateague Island was recently crowned the new Maryland record striped bass in the state's Atlantic Division. Chris Salp of Alexandria, Virginia, caught the 52-pound, 8-ounce striper while surffishing May 11. The female striper, which had spawned in Chesapeake Bay and was migrating north, measured 52 inches with a girth of 28.5 inches, and exceeded the previous Atlantic Division record holder of 48 pounds, 2 ounces. Salp landed the fish on 20-pound test line and was using a bunker head for bait. [/#000000]
