Like those long bamboo poles. How do you attach the line? Do you just tie the line to the tip? Is there a special knot so it doesn't slip off?

In my experience the line was tied on behind a ridge in the wood. It was tied on not directly to the tip, but slightly back, behind a ridge. I'll have to look at em next time i go to my girl's house. I don't use em much.

If i remember right its tied back about 4 inches in the middle of one of the cane breaks, I dont know about any special knot, shouldnt matter as long as it is snugg and doesnt slip

What I have is actually a telescoping pole (2.7 meters). I'm not sure what it's officially called but it would be fished the same as a cane pole. It has a solid quiver tip and on the butt it has a small O-ring. There's no where to attach the line and all of the pieces are completely smooth.

this is the only thing i could find on a telescope pole with no eyes.

An eyeless fishing pole in which the fish line is guided down the center of a hollow telescoping fish pole with the pole being made of transparent or translucent plastic material illuminated by a flashlight mounted in the handle of the fishing pole. The telescoping pole sections are adapted to nest together and to be stored in the hollow handle of the fishing pole. The flashlight is reversible so as to be able to shine outwardly to the rear of the handle or forwardly to illuminate the plastic telescoping rod members. In a modified form of the invention, the pole telescopes together without being disassembled.

I was taught to set up a cane pole by my dad, who was taught by his grampa and uncle. this is knowledge that has been passed down for many decades in the n. ga mtns. fishing these creeks and rivers. to set up a cane pole start by wrapping several turns of line around th base of the pole (the "handle" if you will) and securing it with a good stout knot, then run the line to the tip of the pole and wrap the pole a few times and tye another good secure knot a few inches from the end and tye on your hook, or fly. the line out should not be longer than the pole itself as to make for easier "casting." the wraps around the pole prevents the line from slipping, and the reason for tying the line to the base of the pole is in case when a fish is hooked and the pole breaks you still have a chance to land your fish. remember this knowledge came from a time that fishing was not just recreation but to put food on the table.

Thanks everyone. That's some really good advice!

I bought one of these poles yesterday. Mine is 16' long telescoping. It has 2 clips on the "handle" part to wrap line. Then a hole in the butt part to run line through the middle pole. Then on the end of the pole it has a little eye. Do I tie the line to the eye or do I run the line through the eye and then control the amount of line from the 2 pegs?
