well then since Saddle cove sounds like its out of the question how about hole 33? I have made the hike out there a couple times and haven't had real good luck. I feel like I am not doing everything or I am missing a vital stet to catching stripers. I got so bored with not catching stripers i felt the urge to catch some kind of big fish. and theres lots of em. carp. i chummed a couple cans of corn and then i got to catch some... the two carp that i managed to get the hook set in gave my pole i normaly catch trout with a work out. cant wait to catch a striper that does that to my medium action pole.

does this mean i need to chum a couple bags of anchoives to get some stripers to come in? What about using alternate chums? some one has once mentioned dog food is it worth it? what else can i do?

i really want to get a boat but im not so sure its worth it. I seen a boat full a guys pull up to the hole and then leave after not too long.

this spot is hit or miss. some days are good and some days are bad. but recently i have seen a lot of people pulling up stripper in the last two weekend's. anywhere between 1-4 lb range. last saturday me and two friends were out there we caught a total of 12 strippers. when it gets a little slow i start to chum choives till they come.

how much do you chum? like a whole bag of chovies or more than that? do you cut them up first?

i usually cut only a few pieces at a time into tiny pieces. i was out there saturday and caught 7 strippers in 4 hours. didn't have to chum so much because they were already there.

Hey guys,

I'm a newbie, in more then one way...I moved here from Indiana in Nov. 07 and this week end will be my first trip to lake mead.
The wife has felt sorry for me because I had sold my bass boat before we moved here and I will be renting a boat out of echo bay this weekend and I admit this will be different for me... any pointers on how to... and where to find for stripers and or bass??
Looking for a good day of it , without riding around all day in the rental...lol

Thanks, out of his element,

Welcome,

Where in Indiana are you from? I have family there. When you pull out of the marina there are two spots I know of that always produce fish. If you get a map or google the spots you might find them. First is Stewarts point. After pulling out go straight past the tires and past the islands on your left. Then turn left or north travel up about 5 miles and look to your left. there is always people fishing from shore there.

Next is the second location it is called the meat hole. When you leave the marina follow it to your right. Then you will go thru a kinda s turn. when you come out to a large open basin of water turn left follow it down to the last point anchor in 60 to 90 feet of water.

Tackle: I would use 10 or 12 pound test. I rig my poles carolina style. Drop your line to the bottom and reel up about 10 turns to start. After a few minutes crank up and keep count. when you catch a fish drop back and wind up your total turns counted and you should be in business.

Bait: anchovies, squid or sardines is the bait of choice. Cut off the head and tail and throw overboard. Put the piece of meat on your hook. I use 3/0 hooks.

Chum: up there there are a lot of fish. Some of my friends do not need to chum and they catch a lot of fish. But you can chop up a bag or two into small pieces and throw them over the boat. You can use corn but i have noticed that it draws a lot of cat fish in. I have caught some 10 pound cats up there. The stripers can get big also.

Welcome to the board and NV. Craze has it right on for the stripers. Only thing i would add is look for birds.

This time of year for the bass i would move into the backs of coves and chuck some spinnerbaits to any brush or rock piles you see. If that gets you nothing pull out to the points leading into those good looking coves and split shot or drop shot plastics, even chuck a heavier spinnerbait. Or crank, I just like to fish the baldes.

This time of year for the bass... its really just reacting to what you see. Or dont see... good luck and post a report for sure!

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info. I am from Bloomington originally, have fished lake Monroe and Lemon. went to Kentucky lake and a few other not so big ones. Was a member of the Putnam Co. Bassmaster in Greencastle Indiana.
I will probly go to wally world and pick up a map of Lake mead and see if I can find the spots you guys suggested, again thanks and be sure I'll let you know how it went...you know the sayin, a bad day of fishing is better then a good day at work..lol

Echo bay is my favorite place was there a week ago we caught 15 trolling with whole anchovies mainly the Stewarts Point area. I have fished with just an anchovie from Echo to Overton beach. I have also gone the other direction and fished the coves on the right and had great success. I don't mind the drive usually during the week not very many people are there. I bought my boat 2 yrs ago mainly for northern Nevada fishing I hated Mead and never went. TILL I bought my boat I have been to Mead more than any other lake in Nevada. Yes I caught a 10 lb Cat out of Echo too.

Any reports on the river ? They should be heading north.

Do not think 20 lb test will bother them

20lb test is ok for casting big plugs. For bait fishing I use 10 to 12lb. If you keep driving toward overton go past echo bay entrance a few miles up there is a sign for stewarts point turn right. You must take a boat to reach the meat hole.

The stripers are moving into willow. Two weekend ago one of my friends caught a 21 and the other friend caught a 18 and a 15.
