Yesterday the sun came out and I could not take it anymore, so off to the lake I went. I put in at shellmound, 1st time being down there. I fished several points and coves, the underwater RR, and then some more shallows around islands. Did not even get the first bite. Threw rattles, shallow cranks, spinner baits, jigs and I think a silver buddy on a ledge. Got to the lake around afternoon sometime left around 5, just few hours, water temp was around 53F. Today when I got off work I made a run to the sullivans ramp. Got to water around 5:45 left around 8. Water temp was 53ish on the channel and around 55 back in browns lake. I think the name of the cove is browns lake, just down from sullivans. I threw a little of everything. I saw about 3 bass come completely out of the water catching shad, and many many more hitting the top of the water. You could see the little injured shad on the top of the water all over the place, then splash a bass just got more supper. I tried everything to get one on my line. Finally I tied on a spinner bait, small one with blades the size of the shad I kept seeing. Reeled it fast, nothing, so I decided to slow roll it. First cast slow rolling it, something hits it and game on. I am fighting this fish thinking this is the biggest bass I have ever hooked, and excited about finally finding something they would hit. After a few moments I start to wonder why this fish is staying down, get it close to the boat and its a channel cat. I did not even foul hook it, I just got my line wrapped around its dorsal fin, so when my rod was about the fish it finally just pulled the line out and the fish swam off. Not without leaving a nasty slim on my line. If I did not have so much fun catching the few fish I have caught, I would give this sport up, cause I am not any good at it, but then what would I dream about. I like the part about fishing that is hard, but sometimes I wish I was a little bit more lucky! 3 skunks in 3 days, hurts, I guess I will try again soon. Will not bother you with the report from Saturday, just another skunk on the Chick.
