SCHMACK ATTACK with the Walleye!! WAHOO! You best get out while the gettin is good!! Once that river hits 46++ the spawn will have started and you'll need all the coaxing you can to get em to take your lures!!
Here's some lil eaters my son and I caught!

So do you think I should make the trip up to The Narrows, or would I have a good shot at them down here on the Utah side?
[signature]
It should be good up the narrows right now also. The only problem with the Utah side of the Bear River is that accessability is slim. 90% of River access in no Trespassing. Utah Power and light owns some land, but not much. Nice work on catching those walleyes, they were perfect eaters. Throw the big females back!!

Thanks guys! Narrows is my favorite but all the way down that river would be good right now! I caught some Crappy Sunday and there was some guys catching mud cats at Benson....your sure to catch an Eye cause they chow on those lil mud cats! Hoof them banks starting at any bridge and start a castin!!GL!

Is the Narrows iced up quite a bit still???

I guess it will all come down to how much time I can manage. I can hit the Utah side in five to fifteen minutes, depending on the section, but The Narrows is a good 45 minute drive. I do like to have the option of playing with the trout if the eyes don't want to cooperate. Thanks again for all the pointers, this will be my year to figure out the walleye. I hope.

Ya gotta love them trout! Here's a pic of my son and a 3llb Bow he caught in Benson last summer. Look familiar???I think the poor thing ate too much cow pucky!! LOL!!!

Ma nice work on the eyes! Gosh that is an ugly rainbow Fishingson caught out of benson! Let me know when i can tag along!

I think I know exactly where that is. I always love it when you catch something totally unexpected like that. So decisions decisions. Do I hit The Narrows and have trout and smallmouth as backup, or hit lower with crappie and largemouth as backup and have a second pole for cats going....hmmm, I guess I'll decide in the morning. If only all of life's tough decisions were like this.

Well done Ma. Sounds like you might be one of the few walleye anglers in the valley that can tell the difference from an eater walleye and one that needs to be photographed and put back in it's home. Smart fisherman are the only hope for walleye around here, cuz DWR ain't stockin' 'em. Keep up the good work.[

Tasty critters.

Thanks again you guys! You know I love to fish for all species! I have said this before...in the waters I fish carp I feel are the MAIN predators of our game fish and not so much the fisherman! Just my thought!

nice fish. when was the pitcure taken?
[signature]
[indent]I have yet to see any carp eat a walleye. But I have seen many walleye eat baby carp. The walleye get big in this river and there only predator is fisherman. The carp make a great source of food for cats as well as walleye. The fish would be much smaller if the carp were not present. The fish would also be larger if anyone caught and released this cool species, that will one day be wiped out of the bear river because of over harvesting. It would be nice if DWR stocked some walleye in the Bear, then I myself would keep more to eat, but they don't, so toss some back, it will make you feel good.[frown]

Nothin' feels better to me and FishinMa to eat a couple of those Walleye Pups![
![Wink Wink](https://bigfishtackle.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.png)
] Boy they sure are tasty! Catch and release has it's time and place ...a few small 'eyes once or twice a season sure taste good on the barby and is a great reward for long hours of chasing them! We don't harvest big hens that are full of eggs.
Of course Carp don't eat whole walleye...I dont' think that would be possible... but i'd be willing to bet they are pretty devastating on a nest of 'eye eggs...or any eggs for that matter.

Everybody says they throw big hens back, but me and throwsomeback are the only ones I have ever witnessed doing it (I think they mean they threw it back on the bank behind them after whacking it on the head). And another thing too: spawn and pre-spawn isn't the only time to throw hens back, because even though she ain't got no eggs in her now - guess what? Next spring she will.
The walleye have increased in size and population in this system despite any of their natural predators. They have did it without any help from any state or private agency - they are a self sustaining population.
Carp are a tremendous food source for any predator in the system, and although they do probably eat a share of walleye eggs, the job that they do in feeding everybody's favorite fish to eat, far outwieghs that negative effect. I have a two year study conducted by some folks up at USU that tells the whole story.
Bottom line: we can't control what happens in the water (i.e. carp), but we can control what happens once a fish is out of it. We can still eat walleye, just throw the hens back, and if your not sure . . throw that one back too.
I don't mean any offense to anyone; the people who are causing the most trouble definately aren't on this site (they probably don't even have a computer) but I do feel that the ever growing walleye angler population is in need of some serious education on this particular population of walleye, if they really expect to be catching them 10 years from now. Hey GB that reminds me of an experience I had out at Newton a couple years ago. 5 people(of a certain culture) on a about a12' dingy, were jigging for sunfish and leaving blown up surgical gloves here and there around the resevoir. We pulled up to one of the gloves that was moving rapidly around....and low and behold a Muskie on the end of 3ft leader. We let it go, and went around releasing the sunfish( their bait) and Musky.....popped the gloves.....If DWR were around I would of turned dirty rotton A.H.'s in! They were harvesting them, and the Musky were no where near 40" at that time.
