My son and I went to Owyhee yesterday and managed to catch a bass about 2 lbs. We seen some crappie and carp jumping and had some crappie bites but didn't catch any on our bass lures. Water temp is anywhere from the low 40's to 52. Water clarity was clear around the dam and got muddier the further up you went. Water level was 43 feet down. Seems to be coming up about a foot every 5 days. The road up by the dam is full of rocks and they're not cleaning them off yet. And of course managed to get a flat on my boat trailer on one of my brand new tires on the side wall. [mad]

A lot of fly fisherman on the river below the dam. Saw one trout caught as we were driving by.

We need to get more southwest fisherman on here. lol [cool]

I'm Southwest, just not much of a fisherman lately. But the good news is, just put new batteries in the boat, cleaned it up a bit and installed new tackle into proper boxes. Next day off I'll service the fishing platform propulsion unit, then service the trailer. aka (her resort)
I do know I'll be at Woodhead for 2 weeks the first of May, and should be there a day or two before then.
I've hit the local ponds a couple times, just no luck.

I'll be at Woodhead April 14th thru the 20th and at Hells Canyon May 12th thru the 18th.

We definitely need the weather to start warming up. I guess I'll go Whistle Pig shooting til the weather warms up.

Just another Southwest guy chiming in. Relatively new to the area, but just got the boat ready. Any suggestions over the next month?

My Bass Club has a tourney over at Owyhee this Sat. I fish mostly for Bass. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Brownlee during April is hot for Smallies. I use a watermelon fluke and really do good there. Oxbow is also good for Smallies but it is catch and release only until July.

What type of fishing are you interested in?? We are always looking for members for our Bass Club. Use to fish a lot for Trout but Bass has become my passion.

My son is fishing the FLW National Guard western circuit. He lives in Phoenix and just fished the Lake Havasu tourney. He was doing good until the last day when the wind messed his plans up for him. He finished 57th out of 111 Pro anglers. Not one of his better tourneys.

Bob, what kind of boat you running, wouldn't mind knowing what it looks like so I can keep an eye out for you.
Mines simple, black Lund with Team Quill plastered on the sides and a blonde usually driving.[Smile]

I have a '95 Skeeter bass boat 200ZX with 200 Merc. It is silver flake with black stripes and purple pin striping. The lettering is purple, kind of, but is faded now. If the rain ever stops I'll pull my boat out of the garage and take a picture. Most of the pictures I have of my boat are in the boat with someone holding a big fish. On my profile is a picture of part of my boat with my fishing partner. [laugh]

My truck would be the easiest to spot. It is a '99 GMC with a bar grille, Flowmaster big dual exhast out the back and a window graphic of a Bass jumping on the back window.

BTW, I went to Owyhee yesterday. My buddy wanted to check out his boat to make sure it was ready for Sat.

I caught a couple of Bass with one just over 2 lbs. Water temp dropped about 7 degrees from two weeks ago. Going to be a tough tourney this weekend.

I quick pulled my boat out between rain drops. I had to change the tire anyhow. But of course by the time I got done, we had rain and hail storm come thru.[crazy]

Anyhoo, here are a couple of pics. Also got the truck and camper in there. Angler camper of course. [laugh]

We had our tourney Sat at Owyhee. Water temp was 46 to 49 degrees and lake level was around 30 ft down. Water clarity was stained.

I managed to pull off a win with 4 bass weighing 8.19 lbs with my big fish weighing 3.47 lbs. I was using a black football head jig with a cinnamon/purple/pepper twin tail trailer.

Here's a pic of my two big bass.

Nice, gotta love the jig.

Nice I am just starting to bass fish seriously so I will be asking lots of questions in the next couple of months.

Do you work a jig like that on a baitcaster or a spin reel?

Windriver

I know most people seem to prefer the baitcaster, but I use a spinning set up and seem to catch a lot of bass during the season. Doubt it really matters too much most the time.

I work it on a baitcaster. I throw it out and then work it back to the boat. The second I feel it hit bottom or in most cases a rock, I pick it up and let it back down. I usually get the hits as it is going back down. I love the feel of that thunk as the bass hits it. Almost as much fun as top water to me.

Nice fish Bassenbob! Makes me axious for some open water fishing later on.

hi Guys,

Any new updates coming out of Owyhee? I have a tournament there in a few weeks. Anyone catching any fish?

Bob, I might be there tomorrow, will post a report if I go Grizz

Bassnbob do you fish any of the tourneys on Milner?

I have always wanted to fish owyhee just kind of out of the way for me. Are there any accomadations close to the reservoir?

I have fished tourneys in the past on Milner but haven't for a couple of years. I really like Milner and have done good in our tourneys there.

The only place at Owyhee is the State Park Campground at the reservoir. There are also pulloffs along the Owyhee river on the way up to the reservoir if you don't want to pay for a spot.
