I decided today that I would try to fish a couple of my old favorite holes on the Boise River where I used to fish every day when I lived down here. I say here because I am still in Boise right now. I came down for the weekend to do some fishing with a buddy but plans fell through so I'll probably end up fishing the Boise as well tomorrow. Anyways, so I had an awesome day fishing some of my old runs. I got to the river around 2:00 PM and fished one of my favorite spots. I didn't even get a bite so I thought it wasn't going to be a very productive day. I decided I would move on to another spot that had never failed me. It turned out to be a very good choice. I ened up catching 38 whitefish, 10 rainbows, and 1 little brown. I also lost 30 or so fish that slipped the hook after a minute or so. Pretty good day for the Boise. None of them were huge, biggest about 15". I caught a couple real little ones, 4" or so. I did lose one that was closer to 20".
I also had a new experience I haven't had before.. About 2:30 I hooked into a rainbow that was out of control jumping out of the water. It jumped 9 or 10 times and broke me off. I was a bit upset because it was a two-fly set up and I had just lost two flies. Around 4:30 I decided to walk upstream and hit a few more stretches of water. I caught a few more fish and decided to swing by my honey hole before I left. I got back to the same stretch of water about 6:30. I threw out, caught a few more whitefish and then hooked into another rainbow. This fish was jumping all over crazy just like the other one. I got it in and noticed in its mouth that it had my fly from earlier! I snapped a picture, grabbed my flies and then released it. I guess some fish aren't very smart. Another great thing is that every single fish was a native. No planters. All in all a really fun afternoon. I'm hoping tomorrow I can get into some nicer fish.
