I was fishing yesterday, and just before I had to call it quits I got a good strike on my 1/4th oz buzz bait. So I was back tonight, and thought what the heck, I could catch one. Been fishing for about 20 minutes, and I get a bite. It turns out to be about a 2 and a half or 3 pound catfish, and it got off the hook just over the edge of the deck. My hopes shot up BIG time because I immediately thought it was a big bass. Then I noticed it wasn't really fighting me, and when I saw it my suspicions and fears were confirmed. Catfish. In retrospect, however, I'm glad it was a catfish. Because if it was a big bass that got off the line right there within my grasp, bouncing off the side of the deck, I would have cried.
I'm happy to get some action on something other than a teeny tiny crankbait though. I'm gonna get some chartreuse and white spinnerbaits and give em a shot.
