Hi there guys,

I went out on the 3/4 day Pierpoint today. With the light load of 14 anglers, we were quick to answer the call to come aboard and get our gear stowed. Today, Danny was the skipper and davis doubled as both the cook and deckhand. One thing about it, when things get absolutely crazy, Danny is always right there ready to back up the deck.

After getting bait, off we went to Horseshoe Kelp. Finding a spot, we all fished hard and were rewarded by having the fish count build to reflect the respectable bite developing. From the get-go, both Barracuda and Calicos were taking fly-lined anchovies.

The last couple of trips, I couldn't buy a barracuda strike on bait. It was either throw iron or fish for something else. Today, although you could get bit on jigs, most Barracuda were caught on the 5 or 6 inch anchovies we had topped off our tanks with in San Pedro.

I was great fun fly-lining the live bait as you didn't know which fish was going to bite you first. If you came back with nothing but a cleanly cut line, you knew a cuda had done the honors.

For live-lining, I used a 2/0 medium wire circle hook and a small 1/16oz sliding sinker. A lot of people used either no weight or a small split shot. I find 'a little weight saves the bait'.

Jig colors were the usual blue and white and mint or mist green. Used Tady, Salas, and 544's, and as long as it was surface iron, and you let it sink a bit you'd get hit. Still, live bait ruled.

There were lots of short Bass (Calico's and Sandies)and Barracuda released. Plenty of fish were lost before making it over the rail. Ended up with 69 Bass and 62 Barracuda.

That's it for tonight and I'll have another report for tomorrow.
