Decided to look for some bass today as I'm planning on fishing the CFF tournament Sat. if the tournament committee will let me. Fished mostly shallow spawning sloughs off HB with crankbaits. Caught more than 5 and less than 10 most were concentrated on small areas on the flats. Water temp was 58-60 degrees. I did fish some in the creek but there just didn't seem to be much happening there. I was really annoyed and mad to an extent as there was a commercial fisherman with long lines of nets in a couple of the sloughs that I fished. There were lots of fish in those nets. I found one net with my trolling motor and another with a crankbait. They were not well marked at all. All in all they stretched for hundreds of yard in two different sloughs near one another. When I got up close to the nets I saw one catfish, a big carp, a drum, large numbers of crappie, and a bass that was between 4 and 5 lbs. Luckily the bass and crappie still looked alive but they didn't look good. It's bad when the best bass that you see in a day is half dead in a net. I was thinking that the net guys would be fishing deeper for the catfish rather than in water that was 5 feet deep or less. It just didn't make sense to me.
